The more Gavin shouted, the more unhinged he looked.
No matter what, he wouldn't let Rebecca keep walking all over his goddess! He refused to believe he couldn't take down a nobody with no background and no talent.
Seeing how volatile Gavin was becoming, the Dean leaned in and whispered to Wade Lane, "President, Gavin is out of his mind right now, spouting nonsense. If we force the cancellation of the bet, I'm worried the public backlash will hit Rebecca even harder."
Wade Lane was well aware of how vicious rumors could be. But Rebecca was his prized protégé—how could he let her endure such disrespect?
Just then, his phone buzzed. It was a text from Rebecca.
[Agree to his terms. Let him see what a real gap in skill looks like.]
It was a simple sentence, yet it radiated an overwhelming aura of dominance. Though his girl preferred to keep a low profile, her supreme talent naturally came with a well-earned pride. With someone trashing her name like this, of course she was going to strike back.
The knot of anger in Wade's chest instantly dissolved. He lifted his gaze, his predatory eyes locking onto Gavin. "Since you're so desperate to keep the bet, it stays."
Gavin was just about to flash a triumphant smirk when Wade added, "But you will very soon pay the price for your profound ignorance and arrogance."
Pay the price? Gavin scoffed inwardly. What could possibly be worse than the mess he was already in?
Hearing that the bet was still on, Garnett looked visibly worried. Even though Rebecca had immense musical talent, she had dropped out of her previous college. Her academic scores were likely abysmal. Without knowing her written exam results, he had no idea if she could perform under this kind of intense pressure and secure the top spot in the practicals.
Downstairs, the crowd was left speechless by the whiplash of drama.
When Gavin’s scheme was first exposed, Paulina had worried he would crumble completely. Seeing him pivot into a rabid dog fixated on tearing Rebecca down brought her an immense sense of relief. Her previous encouragement hadn't been a waste. A mad dog was still a useful dog, as long as it served her purpose.
