The mention of their past bootlicking made the students flinch, but they quickly recovered with harsh sneers.
"That was before we realized what a snake you are. You played us."
"Exactly! We followed you because we thought you actually had talent, not because you were a pathetic fraud!"
"I'd keep my mouth shut if I were you, Gavin. You're basically a rat in the street right now. Keep pushing us, and you're the one who's going to get hurt."
"We all saw what happened upstairs. You didn't just piss off the university brass; you pissed off Stella. So drop the tough guy act. By tomorrow, you probably won't even be a student here."
"Oh, yeah. You'll probably be crawling back to us begging for favors soon. You better watch your attitude, or no one is going to throw you a lifeline."
Gavin froze, a chilling realization washing over him. How did they know what happened upstairs?
He turned his head and finally noticed the massive projector screen dominating the lobby, broadcasting a crystal-clear feed of the exam room.
The fury drained from his face, leaving behind an ashen, bloodless pallor.
Everything had been live-streamed. That's why these nobodies felt so emboldened to tear him down.
Bastards!
Seeing him too paralyzed by humiliation to speak, the crowd ignored him and went back to eagerly buttering up Garnett, desperate to get on his good side.
Garnett didn't entertain them, simply picking up his things and walking away. The students were annoyed but didn't dare say a word. Garnett was a completely different beast now. He wasn't the punching bag Gavin used to bully. He had passed the elite exam under Wade Lane's direct supervision and had miraculously forged a connection with the legendary Stella. He might even collaborate with her in the future.
It was definitely smarter to stay on his good side.
Up on the second floor.
