The Day Silence Spoke novel Chapter 243

Latisha backed out of the study and followed Ziven downstairs to eat. She sat at the dining table in silence, her mind elsewhere as she picked at her food, her eyes unfocused.

Ziven watched her, a frown creasing his brow. It had to be torture for her, being a warden in this empty mansion.

Latisha ate only a few bites before shaking her head, indicating she was done. Ziven cleared the table and left, and once again, the vast villa fell silent, with Latisha as its sole occupant.

She sank onto the sofa and turned on the television, flipping to a cartoon channel. She had the nagging feeling she had forgotten something important, but she couldn't grasp what it was. So she just sat there, watching the screen and waiting for Clifford to come home, just like any other night.

With the fever still lingering, her mind felt foggy and slow. Suddenly, her phone chimed. She picked it up from the sofa cushion and saw a message from Nikita.

[Latisha, I've arrived in Feloria Country.]

It was just a few simple words, but they sent Latisha into a spiral of confusion. She typed back: [When did you leave?]

Seconds later, Nikita replied: [Yesterday. I landed today. Didn't you see my Instagram?]

Latisha paused, still puzzled. [When did you leave Etherea City? Why didn't you tell me?]

This time, it was Nikita who went silent.

After several long minutes, a new message appeared: [Latisha, what's wrong with you?]

Her question only confused Latisha further. [What is it?] she typed.

Nikita’s brow furrowed. She wasn't even sure if it was really Latisha on the other end of the line. Why would she be asking when she left Etherea City?

After another moment of silence, Nikita typed cautiously: [Don't you remember what happened before I left?]

After hanging up the coat, Latisha turned back to him. A small smile touched her lips as she signed, *Have you eaten?*

Clifford stared at her in silence for a moment before asking, "You haven't?" He glanced at the wall clock, which read eleven o'clock.

Latisha followed his gaze to the clock, then pursed her lips and signed apologetically, *Sorry, I lost track of time.*

Seeing her remorseful expression, Clifford reached out and stroked her head. "It's okay. Have you eaten?"

Latisha nodded.

"Then you should get some rest." His cool hand moved to her forehead. "You're still a bit warm."

Without another word, he suddenly scooped her into his arms and strode up the stairs. Latisha looked up at him, studying his calm expression as he carried her into the bedroom. He gently placed her on the bed and handed her the medicine.
