Neither Caitlin nor Gertrude had told Joey the truth about Elsa. He was one of the people she had helped, and they wanted to preserve his beautiful memory of her.
Although Elsa's real name had been used in the news, her face had been pixelated and her voice altered during the broadcast. Joey simply assumed the convicted murderer was just someone who happened to share the same name.
"Elsa's been really busy lately," Caitlin said smoothly. "Sometimes she doesn't even answer my calls."
"Oh, okay!" Joey nodded, accepting the explanation without question.
