THE DIVORCE GAMBIT From Dumped Wife to CEO's Forever novel Chapter 1226

Elton's condition had been critical, but with immediate medical intervention, he would have had a chance to live.

But he was already gone?

The news hit Elsa's parents like a physical blow, leaving them frozen in place.

It was a bolt from the blue.

How... how could this have happened?

Elton was their only son.

Now that he was gone, how were they supposed to go on living?

Elsa's mother burst into tears. "Elton! Elton, my boy!"

Elsa's father struggled to keep his composure. "Lanny, you... you're joking with us, aren't you?"

It had to be a joke.

It simply had to be.

His son was over six feet tall. They had just spoken on the phone a little while ago. How could he just be... gone?

If he had known this would happen, he never would have supported his son's decision to study abroad.

No one could understand the depth of his regret at that moment.

He desperately needed Lanny to tell him it was all just a cruel prank.

Lanny's voice came back, thick with emotion. "Mr. and Mrs. Summers, I'm... I'm not joking. You two need to figure out a way to get to Valerium. It's time to bring Elton home."

Thump.

Mr. Summers's legs buckled beneath him. His vision went black, and he collapsed to the floor.

"Honey! Honey!"

Chad Summers was normally in excellent health. He'd never had a serious illness, not even a common cold. It was always his wife who was prone to fainting spells.

His sudden collapse sent Mrs. Summers into a panic. When she couldn't wake him, she frantically dialed 911.

That jinx!

Their family was in ruins, and it was all her fault.

At the thought, Mrs. Summers's face contorted into a mask of pure hatred. She screamed into the empty air, "You damn jinx! You wretched girl! If you wanted revenge, you should have come for me! Why did you have to harm my son!"

"My son was only in his early twenties!"

"You jinx! Show yourself!"

"I'll kill you!"

The sudden outburst startled the doctor. "Quick! Someone get over here and restrain her!"

Several nurses rushed to hold Mrs. Summers down. It took a sedative to finally calm her.

But even after she woke, she remained lost in her own world, mumbling incoherently.

With Mrs. Summers in a state of psychosis and Mr. Summers comatose, and with him being an only child, the hospital had no choice but to contact Mrs. Summers's family.
