Seeing his twenty-something-year-old son crying like a toddler with snot running down his face ignited Mr. Smith's fury.
"Nathan! Stop this ridiculous tantrum!"
"I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I messed up..."
"Get off the floor! Have some dignity and stand up!"
"No! I won't go!"
Furious, Mr. Smith raised his hand to strike him.
Nathan flinched, curling into a pathetic ball.
But his father couldn't bring himself to hit him. Instead, he hollered for his wife, roaring, "Look at the absolute failure of a son you raised!"
Mrs. Smith rushed over, her heart breaking. She tried to pull him up. "Nate, honey, why are you crying? Come on, let's go wash your face..."
Nathan shoved her away violently. "I'm not going! I'm not leaving!"
No matter how emotionally fragile he was, he was still a fully grown man, and he hit hard.
Mrs. Smith stumbled back several steps, slamming her shoulder hard against the wall. A dull thud echoed down the hall as she cried out in pain. Tears welled in her eyes, and she looked at him with sheer shock and betrayal. "Nate..."
Nathan didn't even glance at her. He just kept digging his nails into the doorframe, fully prepared to die on this hill.
Reaching his limit, Mr. Smith yanked him away from the door and shoved him toward his wife. "Hold him down!"
Ignoring her throbbing shoulder, Mrs. Smith wrapped her arms around her thrashing son.
Mr. Smith turned back to Yates, his tone instantly pleasant. "Go on inside. I'll handle things out here."
Yates nodded, completely unfazed by the pathetic display, and stepped into the room.
The door clicked shut.
Nathan stared at his father, a tidal wave of conflicting emotions crashing over him.
Disbelief. Disappointment. Terror. Helplessness. Total confusion.
What do I do? What do I do?!
They were all in on it together.
He couldn't fight them off alone.
He was terrified to call Jasmine or Cassidy.
They would scream at him for failing his one job.
Maybe he should tell Nora?
Refusing to take the L, Parker complained to the group chat daily.
"That idiot told me to drink with him! Who the hell does he think he is? Like he deserves my company!"
"He even tried to drag me to a brothel! What a piece of trash. I'm a married man!"
"So I hit him! Honestly, he's lucky I didn't kill him!"
"What did I do wrong? I was protecting my virtue for my wife! Why am I the one getting screamed at?!"
The whole crew had immediately rallied behind Parker, vowing to help him get justice.
Their master plan involved rolling up to the supplier's headquarters in a convoy of supercars to blockade the entrance.
Then, they were going to publicly cuss the guy out.
That was basically the extent of their menace.
But halfway to the corporate ambush, they heard Nathan's desperate plea.
They were all cut from the same cloth as Parker.
They thought making a female secretary sit in the passenger seat was totally fine, and they believed mobbing an office lobby was the peak of brotherhood.
But targeting a helpless, bedridden woman? That crossed a major line.
