The Don's Orphan Wife Is A Mafia Empire Princess (Elara) novel Chapter 77

Chapter 67 Evelyn’s Perfect – I Adore Her

The old man found it a bit strange, yet he felt immensely pleased.

At first, he thought his grandson would live a life of solitude, destined to grow old alone.

Unexpectedly, in his lifetime, he could still meet his granddaughter-in-law.

Evelyn was less than three meters away from him. Before the old man could say anything, his consciousness slipped into

darkness.

Engrossed in the surgery, Evelyn was unaware of the old man’s curiosity as she carefully reviewed the case file in her hands.

She proceeded to administer anesthesia and start the operation, staying intensely focused throughout, without a single error.

Grayson Hayes, worried about his grandfather, directed all his attention to the old man.

The surgery lasted a full six hours. When it was over, exhaustion was evident in Evelyn’s eyes.

Grayson handed her a towel, indicating for her to wipe the sweat from her face.

As the work concluded and her rational mind returned, Evelyn recalled Grayson Hayes’s deception. Her expression turned

extremely grim, and her demeanor grew distant.

“Thank you.”

Grayson stood frozen, taken aback. This was the first time after they had cleared the air that Evelyn spoke to him in such a

tone.

“Evelyn, there’s been a misunderstanding. between us.”

Evelyn, feeling drained, didn’t want to hear any more from Grayson. Rubbing her temples, she replied, “I’m very tired right now. I

don’t want to argue with you. Let’s discuss it after we get home.”

As they spoke, their mentor approached and glanced at Grayson Hayes.

“Grayson, don’t worry. Your grandfather will be fine. Just stay here and keep an eye on him; I’ll take Evelyn home. She looks a bit

worn out.”

Grayson wanted to clarify things with Evelyn, but he needed to stay with his grandfather. He frowned, feeling caught.

“Evelyn, why don’t you stay with me a little longer?”

His eyes shone with anticipation, clearly revealing his hopes.

But Evelyn was no longer the naive girl consumed by love; she wanted to go home and rest.

She firmly shook her head, rejecting Grayson’s suggestion.

“I’m sorry, but it might not be convenient for me to stay here. You should remain and observe.”

Their mentor, unaware of their issues, had his own reasons for needing to speak with Evelyn.

“Alright, Grayson, let’s talk about this another day. I need to discuss something else with Evelyn.”

With that, he led Evelyn away,

Grayson Hayes watched them go, reflecting on why Evelyn was upset.

He planned to wait until his grandfather was stable before seeking clarity from her.

He waited for what felt like two ages. Just as he was closing his eyes, nearly drifting off to sleep, the family doctor emerged.

“Young Master, your grandfather has awakened. He wants to see you.”

A flash of surprise lit up Grayson Hayes’s eyes as he immediately stood up.

“Grandpa is awake?”

As he asked, he hurried towards his grandfather’s room.

When he entered, the old man was sipping water. Upon seeing Grayson, he waved off the others.

“Alright, you all can leave now. I have a few words with Grayson.”

The servants and doctors exited, and the old man smiled, beckoning his grandson closer.

“Grayson, come here. It’s been too long since I properly looked at you.”

Grayson Hayes felt a lump in his throat as he sat by the old man’s bedside, his tone gentle.

“Grandpa, I told you everything would be fine. Just look at you now-you’re better!”

His commitment to medicine was deeply linked to his grandfather’s illness.

When the diagnosis was made, top-tier doctors gathered, but none were confident about his grandfather’s condition.

To be precise, they had no solutions. Despite lengthy deliberations and various treatment plans, they were merely treating symptoms without addressing the root cause.

Though his grandfather’s condition could be temporarily stabilized, it would soon relapse.

In the most critical moment, the old man fell unconscious, and all the doctors, unable to help, regretfully told Grayson to prepare for the worst.

It was Evelyn’s mentor who decisively intervened and brought his grandfather back from the brink of death.

Yet, his grandfather’s situation continued to deteriorate. Out of options, the mentor suggested Evelyn.

“My student is a genius; she might be the only one to find a true treatment for this condition.”

“Unfortunately, she’s burdened by a marriage and might not be willing to participate in this research.”

At that time, Grayson Hayes was fully prepared to agree to any terms Evelyn might propose.

If necessary, he would even go so far as to forcefully involve her. He never expected to encounter Evelyn before that, nor to

share such a bond with her.

As his mentor had said, Evelyn did find a method to save his grandfather, and in the process, Grayson experienced love for the

first time.

Old Mr. Hayes observed his grandson lost in thought, recalling a frail figure..

“That girl who operated on me today-she’s Evelyn, isn’t she? I sensed some tension between you two.”

Old Mr. Hayes probed intentionally, adopting a serious expression that could be intimidating.
