Chapter 65
Chapter 65 Some Have Too Much, Others Too Little
“Sorry, I don’t have time.”
Grayson Hayes left those words behind as he walked away.
Upon arriving at the research institute, his colleagues immediately began to tease him.
“Late again? Looks like someone snagged you first.”
“The charm of Grayson is undeniable; every day someone drops by the lab asking about you.”
“Here, Grayson, some love letters and gifts from the junior and senior girls at school.”
A colleague handed the items to Grayson Hayes, their eyes twinkling with envy.
“It’s like drought for some and floods for others. When will one of those junior girls share the love with me?”
Some even shot Grayson Hayes-suggestive glances.
They had no idea of Grayson Hayes’s true identity, mistaking him simply for another professor, which made their interactions quite casual.
Grayson Hayes was naturally reserved and had never corrected their assumptions, and as for Evelyn, she would never make a
fuss about it.
At that moment, hearing the banter made her heart twist a little.
Grayson Hayes, however, furrowed his brow at the items in his hands.
“I thought I mentioned I don’t accept these?”
Seeing Grayson’s face turn cold, the colleague quickly added, “It was delivered directly to the lab; there was no chance to
refuse.”
Grayson nodded, distributing the snacks around the room while throwing the love letters straight into the trash without sparing them a glance.
The atmosphere was filled with a mix of admiration and regret, but no one dared to say a word.
Grayson Hayes was handsome, talented, and exuded charm.
Not only did the younger girls crush on him, but even many researchers held favorable views of Grayson.
At lunch, Grayson Hayes was ready to invite Evelyn to eat together when a girl stepped in front of him.
She looked nervous, gazing up at Grayson with a tentative tone.
“Grayson, can we have lunch together? I have something I want to talk to you about.”
After saying this, she quickly averted her gaze, her ears turning bright red.
At that moment, those who had been curious about her intentions suddenly understood.
Evelyn perked up, feeling an inexplicable discomfort as her complexion paled slightly.
Grayson Hayes had been attentive to Evelyn’s mood, and upon noticing her unease, he lost all interest in lunch.
Besides, he liked Evelyn; how could he not see the girl’s true intentions?
Thinking about the many young women in the research institute who were deliberately trying to approach him, Grayson Hayes decided it was time to put an end to the speculations.
He smiled at the girl in front of him, though his smile didn’t quite reach his eyes.
“Sorry, I already have plans, and I have someone I care about. I wouldn’t want her to misread the situation if she happens to see
us.”
The moment those words left his mouth, a stunned silence fell over the lab.
The girl’s eyes brimmed with disappointment and a hint of reluctance.

“Grayson, you have a girlfriend? Why haven’t we heard about this before?” Grayson Hayes slyly let his gaze drift toward Evelyn, his meaning clear.
“I’m still in the evaluation phase, so I’m still just a suitor.”
“Wow, if Grayson, who’s so Incredible, doesn’t want her, then how extraordinary must this girl be?”
Grayson nodded confidently.
“She is indeed amazing. She’s someone I can’t wait to be with.”
His words took everyone aback, and while no one else seemed affected, Evelyn suddenly coughed violently,
The commotion drew everyone’s attention, and Grayson hurriedly fetched a glass of water, bringing it to Evelyn’s side.
“Here, drink some water.”
Evelyn accepted it, offering a sheepish smile in response to their concern.
“I’m fine; just choked a little. Everyone should go eat lunch.”
After this little interlude, the group lost interest in speculating about Grayson Hayes and headed off to grab lunch together.

Soon, only Evelyn and Grayson Hayes remained in the lab.
Grayson pulled out a box of chocolates and extended it toward Evelyn.
“Here, have some. We’ll go eat soon.”
She glanced at the chocolates but didn’t take them right away, feeling awkward.
“You’re pretty good at passing along gifts. It doesn’t seem right to give me something someone else gave you.”
Grayson looked at Evelyn with a puzzled expression, feeling something was off about her statement.
After thinking for a moment, he couldn’t identify the issue and attempted to clarify.
“I specifically bought these for you this morning, they’re not from anyone else.”
Evelyn understood then, cleared her throat, and accepted the chocolates seriously.
“Thank you.”
Grayson furrowed his brow, perplexed as to why Evelyn felt the need to thank him.
But recalling her earlier disheartened demeanor, he suddenly had a revelation. He had thought she was troubled by Ethan Miller
and William Miller.
“Don’t worry; I’ll handle Ethan and William. They can’t hurt you.”
Now it was Evelyn’s turn to be baffled. She blinked, surprised, and uttered, “Huh? Why are you asking that all of a sudden?”
Grayson, trusting his instincts, spoke up.
“I saw you looking upset just now. The Miller family doesn’t matter to me; you don’t need to worry.”
“If you want a divorce, I can help you find a more professional team.”
Evelyn couldn’t help but laugh and shake her head.
“I’m not upset because of them; you misunderstood.”
Grayson remained skeptical, persisting with his comforting words for Evelyn.
“Everyone has their own past, Evelyn. You’re wonderful, and those past experiences will only serve as stepping stones for your growth.”
When Evelyn saw that he still wouldn’t believe her, she bit her lip and hesitated before finally revealing the truth.
“I really wasn’t sad; I just heard someone wanted to ask you out, and it made me… uncomfortable.”
Having blurted it out, Evelyn’s heart raced and she felt flustered.

Realizing what she had just said, she instinctively turned to leave.
“I need to wrap things up; I’ll go eat.”
Grayson caught her wrist, his voice warm from behind her.
“So, Evelyn, are you jealous?”
Evelyn didn’t respond, not even glancing back; her body tensed, her ears flushing red.
Witnessing this, Grayson’s suspicions solidified, and his tone became more assertive.
“You are jealous.”
Evelyn tried to shake off Grayson’s grip, instinctively rejecting the idea.
“I’m not! I’m not, so don’t say that.”
Grayson refused to let go, feeling a rare delight as he watched her squirm in a mixture of annoyance and embarrassment.
“Come on, Evelyn, just admit it. You are.”
“After all my efforts, you, Evelyn, have finally developed feelings for me.”
Noticing Evelyn’s tension, Grayson joked, trying to ease her discomfort.
It worked wonders.
Evelyn, who had felt embarrassed before, relaxed a bit at Grayson’s playful teasing.
“So what if I am? It’s not like you didn’t come on to me first.”,
Provoked by his words, she turned to face him, her eyes fierce.
Grayson bent slightly, locking eyes with Evelyn, his gaze gentle and filled with affection.
“If that’s the case, then I’ll take responsibility!”
