The Don's Orphan Wife Is A Mafia Empire Princess (Elara) novel Chapter 80

Chapter 70 Combined IQ of Father & Son: Zero

“Seeing you would only make Evelyn unhappy.”

Ethan Miller spoke as if he were musing to himself, but Leah Foster heard it like a whisper from the depths of hell.

In that moment, she finally felt as if everything was spiraling beyond her control.

Previously, Ethan Miller had mercilessly harmed Evelyn for his own sake.

But now, he was willing to abandon her just to see Evelyn.

Leah Foster’s resentment simmered within her, but she merely bit her lip.

“Fine, Ethan. If anything goes wrong, you remember to call me.”

Ethan Miller shrugged it off, thinking, what could possibly happen?

Yet, he nodded dismissively.

“Alright, I get it. You can head home now.”

Leah Foster left, glancing back three times, each time hoping Ethan Miller would call her back.

But all the way to the end, there was only silence behind her.

After Leah Foster departed, Ethan Miller looked at William Miller, who was still lost in thought, and suggested,

“Do you want to see Evelyn?”

William Miller nodded eagerly, his voice tinged with excitement.

“Dad, let’s hurry and find Mom!”

Recalling the impressive medical skills Evelyn had displayed earlier, Ethan Miller surprisingly didn’t refuse this time. He nodded

seriously.

“Okay, go change your clothes. We’re going now.”

Evelyn finished her dinner and headed home.

She had always eaten with Grayson Hayes, and now being alone felt rather strange.

Thinking of Grayson Hayes also reminded her of the events from earlier in the day, stirring some unease within her.

Was she truly so unworthy of his trust?

Or were the feelings Grayson Hayes expressed just as insincere as Ethan Miller’s, fleeting encounters in her life?

As Evelyn walked, lost in her thoughts, she failed to notice two figures crouched outside her house.

When she unlocked the door, she felt nothing amiss.

Until she heard Ethan Miller’s voice, tinged with a haunting tone.

“Evelyn, what are you thinking about?”

Startled back to reality by his voice, Evelyn turned to see the two of them lurking at her front door, their expressions unfriendly. Weariness prevented her from engaging in any further argument.

“What are you two doing at my house?”

Even as she asked, her skeptical gaze landed squarely on Ethan Miller.

Was it too little for him to confront minor issues now that he was prepared for the big ones?

Clearly, her earlier display of medical expertise had left a lasting impression on Ethan Miller.

Clearing his throat, Ethan Miller nudged William Miller forward.

“William Miller is hurt and insisted on seeing you. I had no choice but to bring him.”

“Is that so?” Evelyn squinted, skepticism dripping from her voice.

William Miller, still a child and oblivious to the adult complexities, nodded earnestly,

“Mom, it hurts a lot.”

Seeing her son in pain softened Evelyn’s heart; after all, he was her flesh and blood.

She knelt down to examine him and quickly noticed numerous injuries, consistent with a fall.

“You haven’t treated these wounds? Ethan Miller, as a doctor, don’t you know you should have cleaned William’s wounds immediately?”

Ethan Miller felt utterly wronged and quickly began to defend himself.

“Even if I wanted to, William needed to agree. If he wouldn’t allow it, what could I do?”

Evelyn clearly didn’t believe him. He had always been one to pass off William’s care onto her.

Now that she was gone, did he expect to suddenly change? William was lucky just to be standing and moving, let alone

unscathed.

“Alright, come inside. I’ll take care of your wounds.”

Evelyn offered, opening the door and ushering Ethan Miller inside.

Then she retrieved a first aid kit, fully stocked with supplies..

From disinfectants to various antibiotics, Evelyn had prepared for everything.

Ethan Miller felt a mix of emotions; he suddenly remembered that when Evelyn was home, they always had a kit like this.

Anytime he needed something, it was readily available, but now, with her absence, he could never seem to find what he needed.

His expression grew distant as he watched Evelyn tend to William Miller’s wounds.

“Evelyn, I truly regret my mistakes. Why don’t you just come back with me?”

His tone was earnest, and for a fleeting moment, Evelyn felt as though they were back in school together.

She snapped back to reality, not replying to Ethan Miller but instead gazing at William Miller with a gentle inquiry.

“What happened to your injuries?”

Despite being upset with Evelyn, the long separation had mellowed William Miller, and he spoke the truth.

“Auntie Leah went to get something, and I lost my balance and fell from a height.”

Leah Foster, of course.

Evelyn felt speechless, her gaze turning to Ethan Miller, her eyes icy.

“Ethan Miller, as a father, can’t you care for a child? You fought to gain custody of William, and now you come back to say it’s my responsibility?”

Ethan Miller dismissed her concerns, feeling that Evelyn was making a mountain out of a molehill.

“It’s just a fall. What’s there to fuss over? You, of all people, must have had your lapses too. Leah didn’t do it on purpose.”
