Chapter 114: Blessed by Her Light

KIERYGAN’S POV

The silence Mirael left behind was almost a relief. Her theatrics were nothing new; whenever the spotlight slipped from her grasp, she clawed it back with noise. No one bothered to dwell on it— we merely shrugged and resumed our meals.

The meal was drawing to a close when one of Eirlys’ new guards approached, bowing low.

“Your Highness. My Lady,” he said, his voice taut with formality. “There is a man who insists on

speaking with Lady Eirlys.”

My eyes narrowed. “Who?”

“Oleg, my King,” Bran replied. “From the night patrol

Oleg. I knew him well. He and his father before him had served the Drakemonts with unshaken loyalty. During Malric’s invasion, Oleg had fought to the last breath, so maimed by his wounds, he had nearly died. Even when he lived, his body never fully mended; the limp stayed with him, a mark

of his sacrifice.

“He’ll have to wait,” I said evenly. “My mate is still finishing her breakfast.”

Eirlys glanced up, her eyes bright. “It’s all right. I’m finished.”

I paused, the command ready on my tongue to deny her. But something in her expression- earnest, luminous-stilled me. With a sigh, I inclined my head. “Very well. Send him in.”

Bran slipped out and returned moments later with Oleg. At once, I noticed the change-his step no longer dragged, the limp that had marked him for years seemed… gone. He bowed deeply before

“Oleg,” I acknowledged. “Why did you wish to speak with her?”

His gaze lingered on Eirlys, reverent to the point of unease. “I came to thank my lady.”

Eirlys’s brow knit in delicate confusion. “Thank me? Forgive me, sir, but I don’t believe we’ve met.”

Oleg’s voice was rough but steady. “No, my lady. You would not see me-l patrol the grounds during the night. But last night, as I ended my watch, I saw a blinding light spilling from the king’s window.” His gaze dropped, humbled, almost awed “I’ve heard whispers of your glow, and I knew it

could only come from you.”

Eirlys shifted slightly, unease flickering across her face. But Oleg pressed on, his voice gaining

weight.

“I was bathed in that light. And when I walked home… I noticed my feet no longer pained me. The

limp I carried for years, it was gone. I was walking straight again.”

Eirlys’ brow pinched, her voice hesitant. “It might just be a coincidence,” she murmured. “It could have been something else.”

Oleg shook his head, unyielding. “No, my lady. It cannot. I have carried this wound for years. Every healer tried, every charm was cast. None worked, because it was no ordinary strike.” His tone roughened, weighted with memory. “The injury came from one of Malric’s weapons-tainted by something unnatural. They said it would never mend.”

Her face shifted at once-lips parting, color draining. I knew what gripped her: the truth that the same light inside her, her gift, had been shackled to Malric’s will. That weapon, that destruction, had been born of her glow. The guilt was sharp enough to bleed through her skin.

I placed my hand over hers, steadying, reminding her without words that she was not to blame.

Oleg caught the subtle movement, his expression softening. He inclined his head, his voice low, earnest. “Forgive me, my lady. I did not mean to cause you distress. I know well you did not choose

to aid him. I believe that with all I am.”

She only nodded, eyes downcast, but the tension in her shoulders eased slightly under my hand.

Oleg straightened, then sank into a kneel, his posture rigid with resolve. “I have nothing left to offer, he said, voice low and steady, “save what I should have pledged long ago-my fealty. To you both.

I cast a glance at Eirlys, silently asking. She gave the faintest nod, and I inclined my head. “My mate accepts,” I said, each word stressed deliberately.

Oleg froze for a heartbeat, stunned by the revelation. Then, with a slow, reverent bow, he withdrew, leaving the room quietly.

The moment Oleg disappeared from sight, Callum leaned back, a wolfish grin tugging at his lips. ” Well, scratch what I said before,” he drawled. “Next time, leave the curtains wide open. If there’s a

chance I wake up blessed by Eirlys’ light… I’ll happily endure witnessing-or overhearing-our king’s

nightly triumphs.”

“Then let’s all camp outside tonight,” Orryx chimed, a teasing lilt in his voice. “See what surprises

await us.”

Eirlys’ cheeks flamed instantly, her fingers tightening around her napkin as if it could shield her from Callum’s teasing. I let my gaze linger on him just long enough to convey a silent warning, then

returned it to her.

I brushed my thumb over her hand. “Shall we get out of here?” I asked, low and measured.

Her eyes lit up. “Yes, please,” she said without hesitation-then shot Callum a pointed glare that

I led Eirlys down the corridor, fingers entwined, only to realize that Callum, Orryx, and Evander were

quietly trailing us.

My gaze shot over my shoulder, sharp and commanding. “Seriously?” I muttered, voice low but

edged with authority.

Orryx inclined his head, unfazed. “We’re headed that way too, Your Highness,” he said. “Outside is

where our duties await.”

I leveled them with one final warning look before continuing. As soon as we stepped into the

garden, a familiar, lilting voice carried to us.

“Eirlys!”

Solara emerged from the distance, Scylla at her side. Before I could move, Scylla closed the gap,

sweeping Eirlys into a tight embrace-no words, just pure affection and gratitude.

Eirlys blinked, confusion furrowing her brow. “What’s going on?” she asked softly.

Solara’s lips curved into a warm smile, her eyes twinkling. “Last night, Scylla and I were in the garden, getting some air. Then… a bright light appeared in the distance.”

Scylla lifted a hand to her face, a mixture of awe and disbelief in her voice. “Even with my blindness, the light… it seeped through my eyes. When I blinked… I could see again.”

I tightened my grip on Eirlys’ hand, letting my gaze lock on hers. “And you still doubt that it was your light?” I asked.

Eirlys said nothing, but a small, knowing smile curved her lips.

Callum’s grin stretched wide, mischief practically dripping from his eyes. “Well, if even a stray of your light can work miracles,” he said, glancing at Scylla and Solara, “I shudder to think what happens to the one who gets the full dose.”

He didn’t miss a beat. “You, my friend, must be very lucky,” he said, pointing at me. “It must have made you stronger… faster… more stamina. And perhaps-” He paused, letting the smirk linger. Bigger?”

A chorus of snickers erupted. Evander shook his head, trying not to laugh. “If you two are camping

tonight, I’m joining,” he said. “We can all compare notes in the morning.”

I let a low growl slip past, slicing through the laughter. “Enough of that nonsense,” I said, my voice husky, my fingers brushing hers ever so slightly as turned to her. “Fly with me. Our best chance to

leave these fools in the dust.”

Her fingers tightened around mine. “Lead the way,” she murmured.
