Chapter 117: Wounds and Whispers
MIRAEL
“You’ve left me no other choice, Ansel.” Mirael’s voice was low and lethal.
Her fingers slid to the hidden hilt in her boot, curling around it with certainty. In one smooth
motion, the silver dagger gleamed in the moonlight
Then sank deep into his side with a muffled, tearing sound.

Ansel gasped, shock flashing across his face, his beautiful hazel eyes blown wide. He staggered,
but she caught him with her free hand almost tenderly, as though she might steady him. Instead,
she twisted the blade.
“Shhh…” Mirael cooed. “Don’t waste your breath. I want to see you realize what’s happening.”
Ansel opened his mouth, but no words came, only a strangled gasp, blood spilling down his chin.
Mirael leaned in, her lips near his ear. “You have no idea how long I’ve waited for this,” she drawled. “To rid myself of you. Fool! Following me was the last mistake you’ll ever make.”
Her gaze swept the empty woods before a smirk curved her lips. “No one will see you. No one will
know. You’ll simply… vanish.”
She lifted the dagger once more, pressing its tip to his chest, savoring the frantic hammer of his failing heart beneath.
“Goodbye, Ansel. I did enjoy you… once. But lately, you’ve been more nuisance than pleasure.” Her smile sharpened. “And thank you… for making it so very easy.”
And with exquisite slowness, she drove the blade into his heart. She felt the life slowly leave him,
watched the light dim from his eyes, and held him there a moment longer.
Ansel collapsed to the ground, writhing, eyes glazed and breath shallow, his body trembling as the
silver coursed through his veins, hindering his healing.
Mirael stepped back, her boots silent against the cold earth. She didn’t bother retrieving the dagger, letting it lie in his chest. Without a backward glance, she melted into the shadows.
She soon found a creek and let the icy water lash at her face, hands, and bloodied clothes, washing away every trace of Ansel’s presence. Crimson streaks dissolved beneath the current, leaving her hands pale and clean, as if the stream itself had swallowed the evidence.
By the time she reached Solmere, the sky hinted at dawn. Mirael moved cautiously, approaching the palace gates. She froze momentarily as she crossed the courtyard, spotting figures already
stirring in the early morning haze.

Scylla, Ulyanna, Evander-and, most unwelcome of all, Eirlys, clutching that absurdly pampered pet. They were headed somewhere Mirael could not have cared less about, yet the sight twisted her stomach with a familiar, bitter tension.
Eirlys and Scylla’s eyes flicked toward her, curiosity, and something sharper, cutting through their gazes. Mirael met it with a cold, distant mask, her expression betraying nothing. She held her head high, every inch the picture of indifference.
She continued steadily past them without pause. No hesitation. No faltering. She moved straight toward her chambers, where preparations awaited for the journey with Morwenna.
EIRLYS’ POV
I woke to the low rumble of Kierygan’s voice and the gentle shake of his hand on my shoulder.
“Eirlys.”
A groan slipped from me as my eyes fluttered open. He was there, close, looming over me. His elbow propped against the mattress, palm bracing his head, watching.
“You have to get up,” Kierygan insisted. “It’s time.”
I rolled onto my side, clutching at the sheets as if I could will him to grant me a few more stolen moments of sleep. “It’s still dark.”
His low chuckle followed as he tugged the blankets from my grasp. “You agreed, remember? No- wait… you insisted,” he corrected. “Ulyanna expects you before dawn.”
Resigned, I sighed and pushed myself upright, hair spilling in disarray around my face. He reached down, brushed a few loose strands aside, and tucked them neatly behind my ear before rising to his feet. Then he extended a hand, guiding me toward the bathing chamber.
He started filling the tub. Once done, I dipped a foot in and flinched at the chill.
“Too cold,” I murmured.
His mouth curved in a knowing smirk. “It’ll warm soon enough,” he rasped, tugging me free of my
nightdress.
My teeth chatted when I sank beneath the surface. Behind me, I heard the rustle of fabric, then felt the heat of him as he slid into the bath. His arms circled my waist, pulling me back against his chest. His mouth claimed my neck, lips and teeth teasing the mark he’d branded me with, small
bites that stoked fire through my veins.
Warmth surged to my cheeks, then deeper, spreading until it coiled low in my stomach. My glow
flickered, betraying me.

I turned my head toward him, breathless. “Is this why you woke me earlier than necessary?”

His grip tightened like iron, his voice a rough growl against my ear. “I won’t let you spend an entire day with others,” he said, biting the words like a vow. “Not before I’ve had you, completely, for
myself.”
I parted my lips to retort, but the words dissolved into a sharp breath as his hand wandered, trailing from my breasts downward, until he found the sensitive bundle of nerves at the apex of my
thighs.
I clutched his shoulders, nails pressing into his skin as his fingers traced teasing circles before sliding inside, gentle but insistent, coaxing me, drawing me taut and ready. For him. For what was
coming.
His mouth lingered on my throat, teeth grazing before pressing deeper, sucking lightly as though he meant to leave proof of himself on me. A sound escaped me-half gasp, half plea-betraying how much I wanted him, wanted more of him. He silenced it with a firm press of his lips to mine.
I pulled back just enough to whisper, “Kierygan… now, please.”
He chuckled, low and amused. “Since you asked so nicely, little star…”
He entered me in a single breathless moment, and the world collapsed inward. My glow burst bright, flickering wildly, caught between the pull of pain and pleasure that sharpened with every movement. His pace was insistent, almost desperate, as though he couldn’t get close enough, couldn’t claim enough of me. Each thrust drew me higher, until I thought I might burn away entirely.
The water lapped around us, spilling over the edge of the tub with each movement, matching the
rhythm of us.
When release came, it tore through me like wildfire, and I cried out, clinging to him, lost in the shuddering crash of sensation. His groan followed, deep and ragged, body trembling as he spilled into me. For a long moment, the only sounds were our mingled panting and the faint ripple of
water against porcelain.
I slumped against him, cheek pressed to his damp skin, every part of me still quivering from the aftershocks. The bath was no longer cold; a faint steam rose from the water, curling around us like
a warm shroud.
Breathless, I whispered against his chest, “You were right. The water’s warm now.”
His low chuckle rumbled through me, arms tightening around my frame. “You make everything in
me burn, little star.”
He shifted, nudging me gently. “Time to get ready.”
We dressed in silence, the soft rustle of fabric the only sound as Kierygan handed me my tunic,

adjusting the folds just so. His fingers lingered a fraction longer than necessary, and a warmth. spread through me.
When we stepped from the bathing chamber, the smell of breakfast greeted us. The table was laid simply but thoughtfully: fresh bread, sliced meats, fruit, and steaming tea. Nibbles twitched excitedly inside his cage, and Kierygan bent to scoop him up, placing him gently on my lap.
We ate quietly. Occasionally, I broke off a piece of bread or a sliver of fruit for Nibbles, watching
him nibble happily from my palm.
When it was time, I gathered the rabbit into my arms as Kierygan led me toward the courtyard, where Ulyanna waited. He bent to kiss me lightly before turning to the witch.
“Take care of my mate,” he instructed, his voice light but edged with command.
Ulyanna raised a brow. “She’s with me. She’ll be fine”
Kierygan’s eyes lingered on me a moment longer, a silent weight in the gaze, before he finally
nodded and strode toward his study to begin work early.
Up ahead, Scylla appeared. Ulyanna’s lips curved in approval. “Scylla volunteered to help with today’s training,” she said.
The seer closed the distance, eyes sweeping the courtyard. “We’ll need a wide-open space,” she remarked. “In case your magic misfires.”
I nodded. Just as we began moving toward the training grounds, a shimmer of air announced someone else’s presence. Evander phased in beside us, calm as ever, though his golden eyes
glimmered with curiosity.
Scylla raised an eyebrow. “I was going to ask why you’re up so early, but then I remembered-you don’t really sleep,” she said flatly.
