Chapter 152: The Gathering of Wolves
KIERYGAN’S POV
The snow groaned beneath my landing, scattering in a thick spray as my claws tore into the drift. Frost steamed from my nostrils before I shifted back.
Eirlys had only slipped from my back at the last moment, her wings unfurling in a sweep of light as she glided down beside me. She always preferred the sky from my back. So did I.
Orryx and three of my wolves arrived soon after, their massive forms bounding across the frozen slope before melting back into men. Their breaths smoked in the frigid air as they came to stand at my side.
Together, we turned toward the ruins that loomed ahead. Moonspire.
The jagged remains of stone walls jutted from the snow like broken teeth, some still blackened where fire had kissed them long ago.
When Orryx told me last night this was where Amon and the other Alphas insisted we meet, I nearly refused. Nearly demanded another ground. But Amon had chosen this place for a reason-deliberately. To send a message. A reminder. Not just to me. But to her.
Beside me, Eirlys swept her gaze over the crumbled stones that had once caged her. My fingers tightened around hers. “Are you alright?”
She looked up at me and smiled, soft but steady. “I am. You don’t have to worry. Everything here… it feels so far away now.”
Her words dulled the edge of my unease, but not enough. I squeezed her hand once more as we moved through the shattered bones of the fortress until the ruins opened into what had once been the courtyard. Snow blanketed the stone, smoothing jagged edges that time had not yet claimed.
Several Alphas were already gathered, pacing like caged beasts. But Amon was not among
them.
I recognized Alpha Akhil of Silverpine first. When his eyes found us, he dipped his head low in
respect.
“Your Majesty,” he greeted. Then his gaze shifted to Eirlys, and something in his face softened. “My Queen.”
Eirlys inclined her head, composed as ever. “Alpha Akhil.”

His features brightened, almost relieved. “I am glad to say the blight has not returned to my
lands.”
My mate offered him a gentle nod. “I hope it stays that way, Alpha,” she replied with a smile, though I caught the faint thread of worry beneath her poise.
We were still speaking when the air shifted. The easy flow of conversation fractured; heads turned, murmurs rippled.
I followed their gaze.
Amon had arrived. He strode in, flanked by two Alphas I remembered well-both had stood at his side on my wedding day.
When he stopped a few paces from us, he inclined his head. Not in deference. Not in respect. Merely civility, offered like a formality he could not avoid.
I wasted no time. Once the Alphas had drawn close enough to hear, I laid out the truth without embellishment: the origin of the blight, the Light Reaper’s intentions for their kind, for mine, for the world itself. No flourishes. No wasted breath.
When I finished, silence stretched. Cold and sharp like the ruins itself.
Alpha Amon was the first to speak.
He puffed his chest and crossed his arms, his gaze sweeping the courtyard, lingering on the other Alphas before returning to me.
“So,” he drawled, every word dripping with condescension, “let me see if I have this straight, Dragon King. You would have us gather our warriors-our sons, our brothers-and send them to fight, to bleed, to die… against a being that, by your own admission, could unmake the world. A being that destroyed the fae and might reshape the realm in its own image?”
His lips curved into something that was not quite a smile. “And you would have us lay down our lives for that. For what? To save your mate?”
The wolves shifted uneasily at his words-some frowning, others nodding.
My jaw clenched, but Orryx stepped forward, hand brushing the hilt of his sword. “Speak of the queen with such insolence,” he growled, “and I’ll cut your tongue out and make you
swallow it.”
I raised a hand, stopping Orryx, and let my gaze lock onto Amon. Cold. Hard. “You are fighting to save your Queen, yes. But also for your kingdom, your families, your lives. Make no mistake: if the Light Reaper wins, he will come for every one of you, whether you stand with
me or not.”

Amon’s smirk stretched wider, teeth flashing in the pale light. “I hear,” he said slowly, savoring each syllable, “that this Light Reaper has amassed loyal followers. Those who serve him well, who prove useful… he rewards.”
My jaw clenched, eyes boring into his. “Are you one of them?”
For a fraction of a heartbeat, the arrogance faltered. His chest rose and fell as he paced, surveying the Alphas like a predator calculating prey. Then he turned back to me, smooth and measured. “I never said I was a follower.”
He stopped a pace short, eyes sharp. “But if we fight with you… what’s in it for us?”
I tilted an eyelash, letting the cold amusement in my gaze do part of the work. “If the war is won,” I said, letting the words land like steel, “Vargheim will be returned to the werewolves.”
A hush fell over the gathered Alphas; murmurs rippled through the crowd as they weighed my promise. I did not wait for their response. Let them think on it.
I placed a hand at the small of Eirlys’ back and turned. Orryx and the three warriors fell in step behind us silently.
Eirlys glanced up at me, worry in her eyes. “I have a bad feeling about Alpha Amon.”
I pulled her close. “I know,” I murmured, exhaling through clenched teeth. “If he didn’t have sway over the other Alphas, I would have burned him where he stood.”
We continued walking, and once we were a safe distance away, Orryx’s low voice broke the quiet. “You’re sure about giving Vargheim to Amon?”
I did not look back. “I never said it was going to him,” I replied, fingers tightening briefly on Eirlys’ waist. “I will make sure it goes to someone worthy.”
Orryx let out a long, low sigh of relief at my words. Even though he had pledged his loyalty to me and Altierra had become his home, the bonds to Vargheim still ran deep. He would have been poised to claim the title of Alpha had Malric not razed his lands and driven him into my service.
“Are you sure you’re just handing it back?” he asked. “You earned Vargheim fair and square.”
I exhaled slowly. “Our kind never dreamed of conquering lands,” I said. “We only sought to live in peace-and to protect it when it was threatened.”
Then my gaze shifted to Eirlys. “Besides,” I added, “if we made it out alive, I’d be far too busy repairing Val’Thirael to worry about the werewolves.”
We shifted into our beasts in unison and streaked toward Solmere, the snow and wind

As soon as we landed, I guided Eirlys toward our chambers, planning a brief rest-and perhaps a quiet, private moment with my mate. But before we could reach the door, a sudden whoosh of air halted us.
Evander stood there, motionless, but the unease etched across his face was unmistakable.
My brows knit tightly. Evander should still be with Ulyanna and Scylla at the human territories. “You’re back early,” I said.
Evander’s gaze held mine. “Ulyanna and Scylla are still there,” he said simply.
“Then why are you here and not with them?” I pressed, letting a thread of irritation slip into
my
voice.
Evander’s eyes flicked briefly to Eirlys before returning to me. “The able-bodied humans are willing to fight,” he said, his tone even. “And… they’re willing to fight for Eirlys.”
Neither of us spoke, letting him continue. “Before we began evacuating, as you instructed, Ulyanna, Scylla, and I agreed to survey the lands beyond the seas.”
