Chapter 155: Before the Full Moon Rises

KIERYGAN’S POV

Claim

Ashteryn’s forge was always filled with the clanging of metal on metal. But now, it rang with a different kind of collision-raised voices. Ashteryn’s low, cutting growl collided with Drea’s sharp, quick snarl.

Callum, Evander, and I halted just outside the ward that encircled the cottage. “Ashteryn, let

us in.”

The argument inside stilled. Moments later, the ward shivered and loosened, and the door creaked open.

We stepped inside. Callum’s eyes roved over the room, taking in the disarray. He shook his head before furrowing his brows. “What the hell happened here?” he demanded. “Looks like the place has been broken into again.”

Ashteryn shot Callum a sharp glare, but it was Drea who answered, her voice clipped. “We were having a discussion about the artifact we’re forging.”

“Discussion, huh?” Evander muttered under his breath. “Seemed more like a domestic

altercation.”

I brushed past him and turned to Ashteryn. “Show me.”

The smith shrugged, but moved to the workbench nonetheless. Resting there was a small object, modest at first glance-a bell of dark metal, its surface catching the lamplight in fractured, glimmering shards.

Ashteryn’s thick fingers brushed it lightly, reverent despite the scowl on his face. “Drea and I agreed that if we are to disrupt the Light Reaper’s ritual,” he said, “breaking the harmony of the seven bells would be our best chance.”

I folded my arms, brows drawn together. “Then why all the shouting?”

Drea planted a hand on her hip, eyes flashing. “We cannot agree on the note this one should carry,” she said. “Ashteryn insists it should match one of the seven.”

Ashteryn grunted. “Which makes perfect sense,” he countered. “We shape it like one of the seven natural notes, then strike it off by a fraction. That would collapse the harmony.”

“No,” Drea snapped, her tone sharp as steel. “It has to clash, not blend.”

Evander leaned against the edge of the workbench, fingers drumming lightly on the wood.

Perhaps both of you have a point,” he said evenly. “The goal isn’t perfection, it’s disruption. We need to shatter the sequence, throw the Light Reaper’s harmony off balance. That could mean distorting the note, scrambling the sequence… or maybe both.”

The room fell silent for a heartbeat. Ashteryn’s thick brows drew together in thought, while Drea’s sharp eyes softened just enough. Slowly, begrudgingly, they nodded.

Ashteryn let out a low grunt, running a hand over the bell. “Fine. We’ll keep at it.”

I gestured to Evander and Callum. “Let’s leave them to their work,” I said.

The three of us paused at the doorway. “Better pray to the gods this works,” I muttered.

Ashteryn didn’t look up, but the weight in his voice carried unmistakably. “It has to work. There are no other options.”

A little less than a week before the full moon, our allies began to arrive. King Lucius, Prince Draven, and their vampires were the first, bearing grim tidings.

“The blight has entered Morvanya,” King Lucius said heavily. “It is only a matter of time before it devours Obsidia.”

I laid a hand on his shoulder. “Altierra is wide enough to shelter you

and

your people.”

As the days crept closer, more came. Witches scattered from neighboring kingdoms followed, their numbers swelling our ranks. Werewolves trickled in after-but the absence of Amon and the other two Alphas was noticeable. But I had no time to dwell on it.

Camps had sprung up across the valley-our largest cleared space, a flat expanse that could hold all our joined forces. Tents rose like a pale forest; fires burned day and night.

I had summoned the leaders of each faction for one last strategy meeting. With Eirlys at my side, they watched me expectantly-aware that the next few days would fall on their shoulders as much as mine.

Chief Rhaanzel stepped forward first, his imposing frame and axe casting a long shadow. Dragon King,” he called, his deep voice carrying across the gathering, “my men will stand at the forefront.”

He didn’t wait for my reply. “We have the thickest hides,” he added. “We studied Altierra’s terrain. We can shape chokepoints and lay traps for the enemies.”

I inclined my head slightly, acknowledging his resolve.

The planning dragged deep into the night, but no one complained. No one dared take chances. And I swore-hell itself would freeze over before I allowed Eirlys to sacrifice herself.

Orryx was tasked with leading the werewolves. The witches would fight alongside the humans. Callum, Evander, and Thorin would marshal our own armies.

As for Eirlys and me-we would take to the skies.

Only when the plan was set, ironclad as we could make it, did I dismiss the council. I rose, meeting each gaze in turn.

“Rest while you can,” I commanded. “Hold your loved ones close. For in a few days, we march

to war.”

As everyone dispersed, I felt Eirlys’ hand slip into mine, her gentle tug pulling me toward the palace after what had been not just a long day-but two relentless, merciless weeks.

“Let’s go home,” she whispered.

But instead of letting her lead me, I stopped, tightened my grip, and drew her back.

She stumbled, eyes blinking in confusion, lips parting as if to question me-only for the words to vanish when I bent, caught her by the thighs, and hauled her clean off the ground. Instinctively, her arms wound around my neck, her legs clamping around my waist for

support.

Her head nestled into the crook of my neck, soft and warm, before her lips began to brush feather-light kisses against my skin. They trailed upward slowly-over my ear, along my jaw, pausing just at the corner of my mouth. Then she stilled. The little tease.

She drew back only enough to cup my face, her eyes blazing into mine. And without warning, she slammed her mouth against mine.

Heat roared through me, fire flooding my veins, begging to break loose. I wanted her-hard, raw, now. And she knew it. Her fingers skimmed down my chest before flicking toward a nearby tent, her eyes daring me.

I crushed my mouth back onto hers, devouring her little gasp. “We could,” I rasped between kisses that burned more than breathed, “but if you glow like that… they’ll hear you. They’ll see you. Everyone will know what I’m doing to you inside.”

Her lips curved against mine, wicked and sweet all at once. For a breath, I thought she’d call my bluff, that I’d be forced to make good on the promise throbbing in my blood. But instead, she pulled back, pupils wide, voice ragged with need. “Then walk faster.”

My laugh was dark, edged with the hunger she stoked mercilessly. “Careful, little star,” I

growled, adjusting her higher against my hips as I started forward, strides lengthening, almost a prowl. “Push me much further, and I won’t make it to the palace.”

We reached the entryway, climbed the staircase, barely even noticing the world around us. We didn’t even glance at Grace tending to Nibbles in the hallway. With our lips never parting, somehow, we navigated the stairs and corridor without stumbling, as if the world itself had parted for us.

By the time we reached our chambers, I didn’t waste a single second. I lowered her onto the bed, my hands already claiming her, tracing the curves and planes of her body. Clothes became obstacles-buttons abandoned, fabric torn as we moved closer, breath mingling.

My lips traced down her neck, teeth grazing her skin before descending to her chest and taking her n****e into my mouth. I felt the sting along my scalp as she clenched a fistful of my hair at the nape of my neck-but it only drove me on.

I cupped my palm between her thighs, sliding my fingers inside her, stroking in and out. She unraveled beneath my touch, a soft, helpless sound escaping her lips-so small, so achingly sweet, it pulled at something primal in me. I had to have her, now. And I could feel she wanted the same, the faintest whisper of a plea trembling from her throat: “Please.”
