The Dragon King and His Fallen Star novel Chapter 177

Chapter 177: Forbidden Light

EIRLYS’ POV

I couldn’t speak.

Claim

The room fell into a heavy silence, broken only by the uneven rhythm of my own sniffling. Kierygan’s voice had faded, yet the echo of his words lingered-his suspicion about my father.

A celestial.

I’d known he was keeping something from me, but never imagined it would be something vast enough to touch the stars themselves.

After I had gotten what I demanded-what I needed to hear-I found myself wishing he would take it back. That he’d tell me his suspicions were wrong. But he didn’t.

And if what he said was true, then some things began to make sense.

All those times my mother told me to shine my light Every time I asked what

e meant, she only smiled and said nothing. When she finally did speak her words were veiled in sorrow-that there were laws of the universe, binding her even beyond death.

And then came the Light Reaper’s words-cold, mocking, still echoing even in death. “Your mother

broke the most ancient law of the universe.”

If Kierygan’s suspicions were true, then my mother and the celestial who fathered me had broken

not only the oldest law, but the holiest one-Balance.

And I, born of that defiance, was the consequence of their sin. A living breach in the order of all

things.

An anomaly that never should have existed.

I felt his hand brush against my temple, sweeping a few damp strands from my face. The simple touch drew me out of the storm in my mind and back into the present-back to him. His eyes had softened, though shadows lingered there, raw and weary.

“Do you

understand now, my star,” he asked quietly, why I wanted to keep it from you?”

I nodded, swallowing the tightness in my throat. “I do,” I whispered. My voice cracked, but I forced

the words through. “But I still wish you’d told me sooner. I don’t want you carrying this alone,

TT (OP

Kierygan. You shouldn’t have to.”

He looked away, his jaw tightening, then snapped his gaze back to me. “Can you blame me?” he

said, voice low but edged. “After everything you’ve been through-what you’re still recovering from. Danaiah said your light’s been unstable since that night.”

“I’m fine, Kierygan,” I said softly, brushing the back of my hand across my damp cheeks. “Truly. Aside from the fact that food doesn’t taste the same lately, I feel perfectly fine.”

His brow arched, unconvinced. A faint sound escaped him-half sigh, half growl-like he couldn’t

decide whether to argue or relent.

1 straightened, narrowing my eyes. “Could you, for ance, stop worrying so much?”

That got his attention.

“Really,” I went on, folding my arms. “You’re always fretting-who might come for me next, what could go wrong-but all it’s doing is…” I hesitated, my voice catching. “It’s just hurting us, Kierygan.

It’s not helping either of us.”

He studied me in silence for a long moment, then a small, weary smile tugged at his lips. “You can’t possibly ask me not to worry about you,” he said, voice low. “But you know what would lessen it.”

I blinked. “What?”

“If you tried not to use your light,” he said quietly. “The celestial kind. Just… for a while.”

For a heartbeat, I could only stare at him. The words weren’t a command-they were a plea born of

fear.

I forced a small smile. “I’ll try.”

The days that followed carried a strange, fragile peace between us.

Kierygan kept his word. He seemed lighter somehow, less shadowed, and he even allowed me to wander beyond the palace walls again-exploring Vallea Illura, so long as I never went alone. It was a small freedom, but after so long confined, it felt like a deep, cleansing breath.

I tried to keep my promise, too. I didn’t summon my own grain of light-not that I had needed to. I

only ever drew on it in moments of true danger.

Still, I glowed. I couldn’t help it-especially in those moments when we were alone. But it was only the soft, steady shimmer that all Stella Fae carried

Kierygan still left every morning for Solmere, but, as promised, he returned earlier than before.

At night, he would draw me close, his warmth chasing away the lingering chill of the fading winter. Each evening, he let me feed from him-insisted, even-and it became a quiet ritual for us, a tether

that needed no words.

Until one night, he returned brighter than usual. “Eirlys,” he said, voice light, “how would you like to fly with me to Solmere tomorrow?”

I blinked once, then smiled, the corners of my lips lifting on their own. “I would love that,” I

By the next morning, I was practically buzzing with excitement, so eager to see our friends that I was dressed and ready before Kierygan even stirred. I clutched Nibbles tightly as he draped a cloak over my shoulders. “Shall we?” he asked, his voice calm but teasing.

I nodded, trying to steady the sudden fluttering in my chest.

Outside, Kierygan shifted, and in the blink of an eye, we were airborne. The wind rushed past, carrying me higher, and I realized just how much I had missed flying with him-how much I had

missed this-us.

Solmere spread out beneath us, bathed in the soft, golden glow of morning. My heart skipped as we began our descent. The Drakemont castle… it gleamed. Every tower, every wall, every bridge was complete-grand, yet somehow new.

Gray stone interlaced with white, as if Drakemont Castle had merged with the Stellar Palace. The contrast should have been jarring, but somehow it was harmonious, awe-inspiring.

“Kierygan,” I breathed, eyes wide. “It’s… so beautiful

He reached me through the mind link, his voice calm, measured. “I wanted to make sure it’s finished

today.”

I blinked, curiosity sparking. “Why? What makes today so… special?”

A low chuckle vibrated through our link. “Exactly a year ago… I found out you were mine.”

My breath hitched, and a smile tugged at my lips before I could stop it. “My… name day,” I

whispered, awe and joy warring within me. A year. I felt like a lifetime.

I leaned into him as we touched down, Nibbles hopping from my arms and scurrying ahead. My

gaze swept over the castle once more. “It’s perfect! I whispered, awe threading my voice.

Kierygan shifted behind me, straightening his tunic with a faint, almost imperceptible smile. “Shall

we take a look inside?” he asked.

“Yes, please,” I breathed, my heart thrumming with excitement.

We moved swiftly through the castle, exploring the main halls, the grand dining rooms, and a few

of the more private chambers. Each space was new yet somehow already familiar.

Our final stop was our wing-our chambers. I practically gasped. The room was vast, easily the size of a house, with cozy alcoves, a miniature library tucked into a corner, and windows that framed the sky like living paintings. It was… ours.

Kierygan’s hand brushed against mine as he spoke, his voice low but steady. “We’ll continue the

tour later. For now, we need to meet everyone.”

I nodded, torn between the comfort of our wing and the pull of him, unable to resist following.

Claim

He led me outside, toward the training field, and as we drew near, my steps faltered. The usual clatter of weapons and shouted commands was gone. In its place, tables and chairs had been arranged, heavy with food, and people-so many people-were gathered. Not just friends or palace staff, but familiar faces from everywhere we had been.

Ashteryn was the first to step forward. “Eirlys,” he exclaimed, a rare smile breaking across his face. “So good to see you again, girl.”

We merged with the crowd, and the familiar warmth of it enveloped me: Orryx, Callum, and Evander already at the spirits; Ulyanna, Scylla, and Solara deep in conversation, laughter threading

between them.

Kierygan’s hand found mine, giving it a gentle squeeze. “Surprise,” he murmured, revealing a delicate bouquet of snowdrops I hadn’t noticed him carrying.

My heart fluttered, a warm ache of joy filling me. Somehow, this felt grander than any festival or royal ball I had ever attended. “Thank you,” I whispered.

The air shimmered with anticipation, laughter, and greetings. Everyone moved freely among the tables, savoring the food, the drinks, and the meaning of the day-not just for me, but for everyone

around me.

Then, without warning, a blinding beam of light shot down from the sky, sharp and searing. My eyes stung, and I raised a hand instinctively, shielding my face.

Another beam flared beside it, forcing my body to tense.

Kierygan’s eyes found mine, sharp and wary. “We talked about this,” he said, his voice low. “No

lighting up.”

I swallowed hard, my throat dry, shaking my head. “It wasn’t me. I swear.”

He opened his mouth, ready to speak, but before a word could form, the ground beneath us shuddered violently. A thunderous roar rolled across the field, rattling tables and sending a shiver

up my spine.

Kierygan’s hand clenched around mine, steadying me against the shock. Nibbles leapt from my arms, darting away, but I barely noticed.

When my eyes adjusted to the brilliance, my breath caught. Two figures loomed above the stunned crowd, impossibly tall, their robes aglow-one molten gold, the other pale, ethereal blue. Light clung to them like a living thing, rippling across the air, bending reality around their forms. Every gesture left faint trails of radiance, as though the world itself obeyed their will,

Their gaze fell on me-piercing, infinite, and unbearably heavy. My heart hammered in my chest,

In the blink of an eye, they were before me, impossibly close, yet impossibly distant, like visions born from the sky itself.
