Chapter 26: Awakening
EIRLYS POV
I didn’t understand what had just happened to me. One moment, I was getting ready for bed; the next, there was a sharp sting in my belly and a sudden warmth trickling down my legs… then the
blood.
When I saw the red stains on my sheets, my breath caught in my throat. My chest tightened until it hurt, and for a heartbeat, I was back in that tower-the endless darkness, the cold stone walls pressing in, the air sharp with fear and pain. For a moment, I thought… Master and Mistress had
found me.
Had I been whipped? Beaten?
My mind screamed not again, not again, and I curled tighter against the wall, my body aching and
my breath coming in shallow, panicked gasps.
Suddenly, the door burst open. Kierygan rushed inside, his eyes wide with alarm. And in that instant, I knew I was saved. Because the moment I saw him, the tower vanished, and the darkness
receded.
He knelt beside me, his voice steady and sure. He assured me I was safe, that there was nothing to fear because what I was experiencing was natural. And though I believed him completely, I still didn’t fully understand what he meant.
I still couldn’t fully grasp what it meant when he said I was now a woman. But even more bewildering was Kierygan. How he acted, both gentle and fierce at once.
And when he held my face so close to his, I didn’t understand him-or the strange rush inside me.
All I knew was that I liked it. And I wanted it to stay that way.
My fingers rose to my cheek, seeking the lingering warmth of his palm. It was already gone, but I could still feel the heat pressed into my skin. My chest fluttered at the memory, even as my thoughts tangled themselves into knots.
A knock at the door startled me, pulling me back to the present. The door opened a moment later,
and Emma and Grace stepped in.
They wore gentle smiles, their eyes bright. “There you are, sweet girl,” Emma said softly. “Or should I say, sweet lady.”
Grace carried a basin of warm water and soft cloth her expression almost… happy. “It’s a special day for you,” she said with a kind smile.
I blinked at them, puzzled. “Special?” I echoed. “But I’m bleeding. And my belly hurts.”

Emma dipped the cloth into the warm water, wringing it out as she spoke. “It’s nothing to be afraid ot, dear. It happens to all girls when their time comes”
Grace knelt beside her, her hands gentle as she guided me to sit on the edge of the bed. “It means your body is changing, preparing for a new part of life,” she said softly. “One day, it will mean you can bring new life into the world, if that’s what you choose.”
I frowned, confusion swirling in my mind. “New life I echoed. “Like… a baby?”
Emma’s smile softened, a flicker of memory passing through her eyes. “Yes, sweet girl,” she said. ” But it doesn’t have to mean that right now. It just means your body is ready.”
That only deepened the questions swirling in my mind. “But… how does one even make a baby?* 1 asked, my voice low with curiosity and a hint of uncertainty.
Emma and Grace exchanged a glance, a faint flush rising on their cheeks.
“Well..” Grace began, clearing her throat softly. “That’s…. something that happens between a man
and a woman.
Before she could continue, another knock sounded at the door. When it opened, Danaiah stepped inside.
She smiled at me. “What’s this about a man and a woman?” she asked.
I hesitated. “They were just telling me I’m ready to have a baby,” I said. “I asked how I’m supposed
to get one.”
I expected Danalah to react the same way Emma and Grace did, but she didn’t flinch at my question. Instead, she settled at the edge of the bed and met my gaze steadily. “Babies don’t just magically appear in someone’s tummy, Eirlys,” she said calmly. “They’re created… when a man and a woman come together in a very intimate way
I was about to ask how, but she gently placed her hand on mine. “I don’t think this is the right time to go into details,” she said softly. “It might only leave you more confused. It’s not just your body that needs to be ready, your mind and heart should be too.”
I nodded slowly, trying to make sense of her words. But there was one more question I couldn’t let go of.
I looked up at them, my fingers absently brushing over the hem of my nightdress. “Why…” My voice came out small and hesitant. “Why did Kierygan tell me not to show that part of me to anyone?”
“What do you mean?” Emma asked, her brow furrowing.
I hesitated. “Earlier when I started bleeding, he asked me where I was hurt. I thought… I thought he wanted to see.” My voice faltered as I remembered the way his hands had stilled and the flush in his cheeks. “But when I tried to show him, he seemed… angry. He told me never to show it to

anyone.”
Grace placed a palm on her forehead. “Oh, sweet heavens,” she murmured.

Emma let out a breath, as if she’d been holding it in “He wasn’t angry at you, Eirlys,” she said softly. “He was just… startled, perhaps.”
