Chapter 52: What She Is
KIERYGAN’S POV
“I think I know what Eirlys is.”
Claim
For a moment, it felt like all the air had been punched from my lungs. Evander might always look laid back, but being centuries older than any of us meant he carried hundreds-no, thousands-of truths in his cunning mind.
And whenever he said he thought he’d found something, it was almost always fact.
Silence fell, absolute and heavy. Even Callum’s restless shifting stilled. Every gaze locked onto Evander, a flicker of hope, excitement, and a sliver of dread sparking through each of us.
My jaw tightened. “Tell me,” I said quietly, firmly. “What is she, Evander?”
But before Evander could open his mouth, Orryx raised a single finger to stop him. “Not here,” he said, shaking his head. “Seems the walls have ears these days.”
“Agreed,” Callum growled. “Eirlys and Ashteryn getting attacked on the same night… there’s a
traitor among us.”
I didn’t waste time.
“Come with me,” I ordered, turning on my heel and striding down the hall.
My steps were heavy as I walked past the throne room, past the council chambers, until we
reached my private study.
I pushed the door open and stepped aside, letting them enter first before closing it firmly behind
quiet stillness.
I took my seat behind the large desk while they pulled out chairs and settled across from me.
“Before we begin,” Evander said, glancing at Ulyanna, “ward the room.”
Without a word, Ulyanna raised a shimmering hand and flicked her fingers. “It’s done,” she
murmured, lowering her arm. “No one uninvited can enter. No one will hear a word spoken here.”
Evander inhaled deeply, his gaze sweeping over each of us before locking onto mine. His golden
eyes were grave, gleaming with certainty.
“Fae,” he said quietly but firmly. “She’s a fae.”
The silence that followed roared louder than any scream.
It was Ulyanna who finally spoke, her voice quiet but certain. “I’ve had my suspicions,” she said. ”

Evander shook his head slowly, eyes distant as though sifting through centuries of memory. “No, not just any fae,” he said. “Eirlys is a Stellar Fae.”
Callum let out a humorless, disbelieving laugh. “That’s impossible,” he said roughly. “The Stellar Fae went extinct a long time ago. They’re a myth, Evander.”
Evander’s lips twitched into something that wasn’t quite a smile. “You know I don’t make assumptions, Callum,” he said softly. “I’ve been looking into this for a long time. And when I saw what her light did-to Ashteryn, to those cursed vampires-I knew. There’s only one being capable
of that.”
My hands curled into fists at my sides, the pulse thundering in my ears as everything I’d seen and
felt about her slotted into place like iron teeth locking on a gear.
Stellar Fae.
A being born of a dying star. The result of a star’s final explosion. The Big Bang, as others might call it. Stellar Fae-the mother of all other fae courts, the root of every magical creature that ever
walked the realms.
Orryx, who had remained silent and composed until now, cleared his throat. “If that’s true,” he said, his fingers stroking his chin thoughtfully, “then our little Eirlys is… practically a goddess.”
It felt as though my throat had closed around itself refusing air.
A fae with immense power. A goddess. And she’s mine.
Evander began pacing the room, his long fingers drumming against his thigh. “This puts her in even greater danger,” he said. “If word spreads about who-what-she truly is.”
I slammed my fist against the desk, the echo sharp in the silence. “Then we don’t let anyone know,” I said, my voice iron-hard.
Callum raised a brow, his usual smirk curling at the corner of his lips. “Really?” he drawled. “Just like you didn’t let anyone know why you instantly knew she was in danger earlier?”
Everyone paused, their narrowed eyes pinning me in place. I said nothing.
“I remember your exact words,” Callum said after a moment. “She’s in danger. I can feel it.” His gaze sharpened. “How did you know that, Kierygan?”
Beside him, Ulyanna’s lips curled into a knowing, almost amused smile. “You can only sense someone’s strong emotions like that,” she said softly, “if they’re your mate. Your soulbound.”
Still, I said nothing. I wasn’t ready to give them this truth-not yet. I wanted the first person to hear
it to be her.

Callum let out a quiet huff of laughter and shook his head. “Come on, Kier,” he pressed, his tone teasing but his eyes bright with certainty. “I already knew. I just want to hear it from you. I want to
hear that I’m right.”
I clenched my jaw, then sighed sharply. “This doesn’t leave this room. Got it?” I warned, jabbing a
finger at each of them in turn.
They all burst into quiet, celebratory laughter before their expressions sobered again.
“Of course,” Orryx said, his voice steady. “If word gets out, it could put her in even more danger. If
Malric finds out, she becomes an even bigger target than she already is.”
Evander tilted his head slightly, studying me with sharp eyes. “How long have you known?”
“Since the beginning of spring,” I replied without hesitation. “The moment I named her.”
He gave a slow nod. “She doesn’t know, does she?”
“No,” I admitted. “I don’t think she feels the bond. Maybe it’s the damned bracelet. Or maybe she
does feel it—she just doesn’t understand what it means.”
Thankfully, they didn’t press me any further. We turned our focus back to the more urgent matters
at hand: the attacks on Eirlys and Ashteryn, and the stolen gems.
All of us agreed that the attack on Eirlys had been targeted-the vampires’ bloodlust had sought only her. As for Ashteryn, it was clear the gems had been the true objective. He had simply been in
the way.
“There’s no doubt in my mind Malric was behind the stolen gems,” I said. “But the real question is… how did he know where they were hidden? When I ordered Ashteryn to hide them, I told him not to
tell anyone. Not even me.”
Callum leaned back in his chair, though his shoulders remained tense. “That’s why I know there’s a traitor in our midst,” he said, his voice low. “Someone’s been feeding him information. We need to
find out who-and soon.”
“We will,” I said. “For now, our only consolation is that, unlike fifteen years ago, we’re at least prepared for an attack-whenever it comes.”
Orryx nodded. “We’ll speak with Ashteryn in the morning,” he said firmly. “Now that we know more about how the gems were weaponized, perhaps he can forge some kind of protection.”
They all nodded, rising to their feet.
“I’ll track down the witch who cast the bloodlust spell,” Ulyanna said.
Evander glanced at Callum. “Did you check on Mirael tonight?”
Callum nodded. “First thing I did. She was asleep in her chambers. The guards vouched she never

Evander’s lips curled into a faint smirk. “Still… let’s not rule her out. We all know exactly what she’s
capable of.”
I gave a single nod. “We’ll reconvene tomorrow,” I said. “For now, get some rest-but have the warriors and witches remain on watch.”
Once the others had left the room, I remained seated, staring at the door they’d closed behind them. Only when the silence pressed too heavily on my chest did I finally rise and make my way
back to my chambers to check on her.
When I entered, the room was dimly lit by the fading glow of the hearth. Eirlys lay in my bed, cleaned and changed into something soft and warm. Her breathing was slow and even, her hair
spread across the pillow.
Emma and Grace had done well.
