Chapter 67: Bound for Morvanya
EIRLYS‘ POV

The morning was still wrapped in darkness when Kierygan and I stepped outside. He handed one of the coachmen our trunks while I carried Nibbles cage, careful not to jostle it. Inside, Nibbles
was still curled up asleep, his little nose twitching against the straw.
I watched as a guard strapped our leather trunks to the top of the carriage, tightening the ropes with quick, practiced movements. The horses snorted clouds of steam into the cold air, their hooves shifting restlessly against the cobblestones. I felt just as restless inside, a tight knot of
nerves and curiosity coiling in my chest.
I turned to Kierygan to ask why there were two carriages, but before I could speak, I noticed two figures approaching, each carrying their own trunks
“They’re coming with us,” Kierygan said, following my gaze.
Evander, elegant and polished even at this hour, lifted a hand in greeting. The breeze ruffled his
golden hair, though not a strand dared fall out of place. Beside him walked Ulyanna, her hair pulled
back into a tight bun, her eyes calm and unreadable in the dim light.
“Excited for the long trip ahead, Snowdrop?” Evander called out, a teasing smile tugging at his lips.
I smiled softly and waved back. “Yes,” I said, though my voice came out quiet. The truth was,
excitement tangled with apprehension in my chest. I wasn’t sure what to expect.
Kierygan’s voice cut through the chill morning air. “Get in the carriage.”
I obeyed, stepping up into the cabin and placing Nibbles‘ cage carefully on the floor. I sat down on
the cushioned seat as Kierygan climbed in after me. He settled onto the seat across from me, his gaze flicking over me briefly before he rapped twice on the carriage wall.
A moment later, the carriage lurched forward.
I pressed my face to the small window, catching glimpses of towers and stone walls as we rolled through a quiet town. The first blush of sunrise bled across the sky, staining the clouds pink and
gold.
It reminded me of the morning Kierygan took me away from the tower. That sunrise was my first. I can still remember how I felt that day–awed, terrified, free.
I lost myself in the scenery as villages blurred past, mist curling around thatched rooftops, and bare branches reached out like dark veins against the lightening sky. But soon, the gentle rhythm of the carriage and the warmth of my cloak pulled at my eyelids. They grew heavy, and before I knew it, sleep tugged me under.

+25 Poin A gentle shake on my shoulder pulled me from sleep. I blinked blearily, feeling something solid and warm beneath my cheek. As my vision cleared, I realized my head was resting on Kierygan’s lap. He was looking down at me, his blue eyes calm, a hint of amusement flickering there.
His voice rumbled low, vibrating softly through me. We need to make a stop. There’s a shop
nearby where we can eat.”
Heat rushed to my face as I quickly sat up, brushing my hair back behind my ears. I nodded, avoiding his gaze, and reached down to get Nibbles from his cage.
Kierygan stepped out of the carriage first before turning to offer me his hand. I clutched Nibbles to my chest and carefully descended the steps, the cold morning air nipping at my cheeks.
Evander and Ulyanna emerged from their carriage just behind us. Together, we walked toward the
small roadside shop. Its wooden sign creaked gently in the quiet dawn breeze, swaying above the door. Inside, it was warm and smelled faintly of herbs and baked bread, lit by the soft flicker of lanterns. The place was empty except for a sleepy–looking server wiping down a table. She blinked
at us in surprise before quickly hurrying off to fetch menus.
We chose a long table by the window. This time, Kierygan sat beside me, and I placed Nibbles on my lap. The rabbit shuffled before raising his head to rest his chin on the table’s edge, sniffing
curiously at the smell of food.
“What a spoiled rabbit,” Ulyanna said with a small smile, her eyes warming as she studied Nibbles.
Soon, steaming cups of tea arrived, filling the air with the calming scent of chamomile and mint. Platters of smoked meats, freshly baked bread still warm from the oven, and a small lemon pie
were set before us. My mouth watered at the sight of the golden filling, its surface dusted lightly
with sugar.
Evander stretched lazily, a faint smirk playing on his lips as he tore off a piece of bread. “We should reach Morvanya by tomorrow afternoon,” he said casually, “give or take a few hours.”
I blinked at him. “Tomorrow afternoon? Why can’t we just… use magic to get there faster?” I asked,
glancing between them. “I mean… Ulyanna could apparate us, right? Or Evander could… phase me.”
I bit my lip to stop myself from suggesting flying, reminding myself he didn’t want that.
Evander leaned back in his chair, a lazy smile curling his lips. “We could,” he said coolly. “But
where’s the fun in that? You have to see the world beyond Altierra. You’ll love it.”
Kierygan poured tea into my cup. “And trust me,” he added, glancing at Evander, “you wouldn’t like
being phased in and out.”
I frowned. “Why?”
Evander chuckled, leaning forward slightly. “I phased Kierygan once a long time ago,” he said,

amusement dancing in his eyes. “He threw up his entire lunch afterward.”

A laugh escaped me before I could stop it. I couldn’t imagine Kierygan–so tough and unshakable- being sick from something like that.
Kierygan shot me a glare. “I’d like to see you try, Eirlys,” he said dryly.
I blinked at him, then turned to Evander, curiosity lighting up my chest. “Can I?”
Kierygan let out a quiet sigh. “When we return home,” he said firmly. “We can’t risk you getting sick
while we travel.”
Breakfast passed in a gentle haze of quiet conversation.
Afterward, we stepped outside to stretch our legs. The sun was finally high in the sky, golden and warm against my skin. I tilted my face up to it, breathing in the crisp scent of pine and damp earth,
while Nibbles munched happily on a fresh clover Evander had picked for him.
Soon, Kierygan gestured for us to return to the carriages. We settled back into the cushioned seats, the wheels rumbling over uneven roads as our journey continued. The day blurred by in a rhythm of short stops to rest the horses and let them drink.
At one point, Evander entertained me with stories about Morvanya’s hidden libraries, his hands sweeping through the air as he described secret passages and enchanted tomes, while Ulyanna
handed me small sweets to ease my motion sickness.
By late afternoon, the sky grew heavy and dark as we entered a dense wood. Rain began to fall in quiet sheets, drumming steadily on the carriage roof. Lightning flickered now and then, illuminating the black silhouettes of towering trees outside.
Kierygan rapped sharply on the carriage wall, signaling the driver to stop. “We’ll camp tonight,” he said, his eyes scanning the forest beyond the window. “The roads will be flooded soon.”
Without a word, Evander phased out of sight. Minutes later, he returned, his pale hair damp with rain and a few stray leaves caught in his cloak. “There’s a cave not far from here,” he announced.
