I woke to a pounding in my head, each throb sending sharp flashes of pain behind my eyes. A soft groan slipped from my lips as I curled further into the warmth enveloping me.

It took a moment before I realized that warmth wasn’t just from the blankets.

It was from Kierygan.

Even with my vision blurred, and my senses dulled by the pounding in my head, I knew it was him. His scentburning birchwood, frost, and something unmistakably hiswrapped around me, soothing the ache.

Careful not to wake him, I shifted my head slightly. His breathing was deep and even, his face relaxed in sleep. The morning light was only just creeping through the heavy curtains, casting gold lines across his sharp features.

Slowly, I turned my gaze around the room, blinking until the blur softened. The space was

unfamiliar. Rich tapestries draped the walls, while carved stone pillars framed the balcony beyond heavy curtains. Pillows lay scattered everywhereacross the bed and flooras if a whirlwind had swept through.

Then it all came rushing back.

Obsidia. The palace. Dinner. Feeling unwell.

But everything after that was hazy, a swirling fog of halfformed impressions I couldn’t quite grasp.

I rememberedwarmth. His voice, murmuring low and rough against my ear. His hands on my

skin. His lips on mine.

Heat flooded my cheeks at the memory.

No, that had to be a dreamhadn’t it? Just a dream. A very pleasant dream. Because something

like that could never happen in real life. It was far too good to be real.

I swallowed hard, my throat dry and tight. Before I could piece anything else together, a soft knock

sounded at the chamber door.

Eirlys?came Ulyanna’s calm, muffled voice from the other side. Are you awake, dear?

I parted my lips to answer, but as I moved to throw off the blankets and rise, I froze.

My heart stopped completely.

The blankets had slipped low around my hips, baring my torso to the cold morning air. Panic tightened in my chest. I pulled the covers back up in a frantic rush, clutching them to myself with

Gods. I was naked. Completely, utterly naked under the thick blankets.

My pulse roared in my ears as I stared at the closed door, wideeyed with horror. Slowly, I turned to

look at Kierygan lying beside me. The blanket was pulled low on his hips, barely covering his

bottom.

He was naked too.

Panic seized my chest.

Whatwhat happened last night?

I heard Ulyanna’s sigh from behind the door. I’m coming in,she called gently.

My eyes widened in panic. Wait-!

But it was too late.

The door swung open, and Ulyanna stepped inside, still in her pale lilac night robe, her hair braided

down her back. She had a small, relieved smile on her face as she said, I just wanted to check on

you, dear, to see if you’re feeling better after

Her words cut off abruptly.

Her eyes landed on me firstwrapped in the blankets, clutching them up to my chin with burning

cheeks. Then her gaze shifted to Kierygan, who was sprawled beside me under the sheets,

barechested, his hair mussed from sleep.

Ulyanna’s mouth fell open.

For a moment, she just stood there, blinking. Then her eyes narrowed. Without a word, she bent

down, grabbed one of the pillows that had fallen to the floor, and began hitting Kierygan with it.

Thud. Thud. Thud.

He groaned, shifting under the barrage of blows, blinking awake in confusion. Ulyanna,he

mumbled, squinting up at her. What in the-

Thud.

How could you-Thud. -take advantage-Thud -of the poor girl?!

Kierygan blinked again, halfasleep and scowling as he raised an arm to shield his face. What the

hell are you talking about?

But she only hit him again, her hair swinging furiously behind her. Don’t you what the hellme, Kierygan! She was intoxicated last night, and youShe gestured wildly at the two of us, her cheeks flushed with outrage. -you’re naked in bed with her!

Kierygan pushed himself up on one elbow, the sheets falling dangerously low around his hips. My breath caught in my throat, and I squeaked, burying my burning face deeper into the blankets.

Would you relax? It’s not what you think,Kierygan said flatly, rubbing his face with one large hand as if trying to wake himself up fully. She threw up all over both of us, and I cleaned her up. That’s

all.

Ulyanna’s eyes narrowed further, her grip tightening around the pillow. She studied us in silence for

a long, tense moment before leaning in, her voice low and dangerous.

You’d better pray to the old gods that’s true, Kierygan,” she hissed. Because if it isn’t, I won’t

hesitate to curse you so thoroughly your precious member will shrivel up and fall off.

Then she turned to me, her expression softening instantly. Are you all right, Eirlys?

I nodded quickly. I’m fine.

Are youhurt in any way?she asked, her voice gentler now, searching my face for any sign of

distress.

I shook my head frantically. Justmy head.

Her gaze softened even more as she let out a quiet sigh of relief, before shooting Kierygan one last

venomous glare. She set the pillow back down with deliberate care.

I’ll brew something for your headache,” she said to me softly. Then her tone hardened as she

addressed us both. Now get dressed. We have a lot to discuss with Lucius today.

With that, she turned on her heel and swept out of the room, leaving behind a choking silence filled

only by the frantic pounding of my heart.

I remained silent, pressing my back harder against the headboard as I clutched the blankets around myself.

Beside me, Kierygan let out a tired sigh, dragging a hand through his hair before his cool, assessing

gaze shifted to me. Do you remember what happened last night?

My heart pounded so hard it hurt. I swallowed, clutching the blankets tighter. Ermno,I

whispered, shaking my head. Diddid something happen?

He raised a brow, his expression unreadable. Let me remind you,” he said evenly. You were rather

naughty last night, Eirlys.

My heart stopped. I was?I choked out, feeling heat rush to my cheeks.

Part of me didn’t want to know. But another part burned with curiosity. Whatwhat did I do?

His lips curled slightly. You kissed me,he said. Then you asked meno, you pleaded with meto kiss you.

What?I gasped, curling tighter against the headboard, wishing I could disappear. So itit wasn’t a dream?I whispered, more to myself than to him.

He let out a low, humorless chuckle. Oh, it was real Every second of it.

I said nothing. There was nothing to sayno excuse, no defense.

He studied me for a long moment before leaning back slightly, his eyes narrowing. Tell me, Eirlys

do you even understand what you were asking for last night?

My head snapped up, tears of shame burning my eyes. I don’t know,I whispered. I don’t even

know why I did it.”

His lips curved into something that wasn’t quite a smile. It could have led to more, Eirlys. Much

moremore than you’re prepared for,he said quietly. Do you even know what happens between a

man and a woman when they’re aloneand intimate?

I stared at him, my mouth opening and closing soundlessly, my face burning hotter by the second.

Solara had mentioned we’d cover the topic in upcoming lessons, but we hadn’t gotten to it yet.

The blank terror in my eyes must have been answer enough.

His gaze darkened, and he let out a quiet, humorless huff. That’s what I thought,” he muttered

under his breath. Then his eyes flicked back to mine, sharp and unyielding. You were playing with

fire last night, Eirlys. If I hadn’t stoppeddo you understand what could have happened?

I shook my head frantically, shame and confusion twisting painfully in my chest. II’m sorry,” I

whispered, my voice trembling.

He exhaled slowly, rubbing a hand over his face as if gathering patience. Don’t apologize,he said softly, a small smile tugging at his lips. In fact, I’m glad you think I’m beautiful.

Mortified, I grabbed a pillow and buried my face in it. I really said that?My voice was muffled, my eyes sneaking a glance from behind the fabric.

He raised a brow, his smile widening into something genuine. Why, are you taking it back?

I shook my head vigorously, still hidden against the pillow. Then I felt his hand brush over my hair,

gentle. It’s not your fault you got drunk,he murmured. I don’t even know why they gave you that drink in the first place.”

He let out a quiet sigh. But next timebe aware of your surroundings,he said, his voice turning

firm. This is not home. People herethey’re different.

Slowly, I straightened myself. As soon as I did, I met his gaze. For a fleeting moment, something

protective flickered in his eyes before a hint of teasing glimmered there.

You need to get up and get dressed,” he said, his voice low. Before you decide to seduce me

He only chuckled as he stood, his bare back rippling with movement. Grabbing a towel, he wrapped it around his hips before striding towards the door, leaving me trembling in the silent aftermathmy heart pounding so hard it hurt.
