The Dragon King and His Fallen Star novel Chapter 92

Chapter 92: By His Flame

EIRLYS’ POV

Evander’s grip tightened cruelly in the woman’s fiery hair. With a sharp jerk of his hand, he yanked

her off balance-her boots skidding against the stone as she struggled to stay upright.

But she only laughed.

Light and mocking, the sound rang out like a bell meant to taunt, not charm. It was as if none of it

touched her as if she enjoyed the way she got under Evander’s skin.

“We really should stop meeting like this, vampire prince,” she purred, eyes glittering like emeralds

beneath her tousled red curls.

A low snarl built in Evander’s throat. His fangs bared in full view, sharp and gleaming. Black veins

webbed outward from his eyes, crawling across his temples. I’d never seen him like this-so unhinged, so close to the edge.

The ever-charming scholar, the smooth-tongued diplomat… was gone.

My breath caught.

He was going to hurt her.

But before he could strike, Kierygan’s voice cut through the tension.

“You’re the seer from the market,” he said-calm, but cold.

The woman turned her gaze to him, utterly unbothered by Evander’s grip or the twist of her neck. Her smile spread slowly, wicked and wide, like she’d been waiting for this moment.

“So you do remember me, Your Majesty,” she purred.

Kierygan turned to Evander. “Let her go.”

But Evander didn’t move.

“You heard the Dragon King,” the woman said smoothly, despite the taut tension in her body.”

Unhand me.”

Evander’s grip only tightened.

Then, without warning, he wrenched her upright by the hair, lifting her until her toes barely skimmed the cobblestones. She winced, her scalp pulled taut-and even I flinched.

And still, impossibly, she laughed. Defiant. “I was beginning to think you relished having me in your grasp,” she taunted, lips curling.

Evander growled a guttural, unrestrained sound-and flung her aside as if she were nothing.

“Evander!” I gasped, panic lacing my voice. “What’s gotten into you?”

She hit the ground hard-knees cracking against stone, palms scraping forward to catch the fall. Without thinking, I dropped to her side. “Are you alright?” I asked softly, reaching toward her.

She took my hand, rising slowly. Her fingers were cold, her grip too light. When her green eyes met mine, they were suddenly… glazed. Distant. Hollow.

“You don’t seem fine,” I said, concern threading into my voice.

For a moment, she didn’t respond. Then she blinked slowly, as if waking from a deep sleep. To my

surprise, she inclined her head in a low, deliberate bow.

“It’s an honor to finally meet you,” she said softly.

Before I could respond, Kierygan stepped between us, his presence like a drawn blade. “What are you doing here?” he asked, voice cold.

The woman turned her gaze to him, but the sharp edge in her smile had dulled. This one was

softer.

“This is a festival, isn’t it?” she said innocently. “Everyone is welcome.”

Then she tilted her head slightly, her expression sharpening. “Besides… aren’t you the ones searching for me?”

Ulyanna, who had been quietly observing the entire exchange, stepped forward, her gaze narrowing as she studied the woman.

“I recognize you,” she said slowly. “You’re Scylla Ravari.”

The woman’s smirk returned, pride curling at the corners of her lips. “The one and only,” she said. “ Last of a long line of seers-renowned across all the realms.”

Ulyanna’s expression hardened, her voice turning cool and measured. “You didn’t come here for lanterns and music. Someone like you doesn’t waste time on festivals.”

“You’ve had another vision, haven’t you?”

Scylla gave a slow shrug, tilting her head at Ulyanna. “Unfortunately, I’ve no new visions to share tonight. I came because I wanted to know more.”

Her voice lowered. “Whatever’s coming… it’s bigger than any of us. And it won’t just touch your kingdom, Dragon King. It will sweep across every dominion.”

I couldn’t hold my tongue anymore. “What vision?” asked. “What’s coming?”

Scylla turned her gaze to me, the sharp angles of her face softening for just a moment. “Ask your ma…” She paused, her eyes flicking toward Kierygan. A silent exchange passed between them- unreadable, but weighted-before she looked back at me. “Ask your king.”

Her gaze swept over Ulyanna, lingered on Evander, then returned to Kierygan. “You intend to journey into the heart of Val’Thirael-the valley where the skies dance. I want to go with you.”

She didn’t wait for a reply. With a swift turn, she melted into the crowd-one blink, and she was

gone.

I looked up at Kierygan, hoping he would tell me more about what the seer meant. Her words still

echoed in my head.

“I’ll explain later,” he said, his eyes holding mine-calm, unreadable. “Tonight… we enjoy.”

I nodded, though worry still clung to the edges of my thoughts.

With that, we turned back to the festival.

We watched the fire dancers first-graceful figures weaving flame like ribbons through the dusk-lit air. The heat shimmered around them, casting everything in a dreamlike glow. Then we wandered through the lantern-lit stalls. Kierygan bought all sorts of food for us-things I couldn’t name, wrapped in leaves or skewered on sticks.

We stopped by the trinket stalls as well, where he picked out a small silver pendant shaped like a winged star. He fastened it to a ribbon, then tied it gently around my neck himself.

I smiled up at him, glowing.

But then… the music faltered.

Only the drumbeats remained-low, steady, pulsing like the heartbeat of the earth. One by one, voices fell silent. A hush rippled through the square like a gathering breath.

“Why did they stop?” I whispered.

Kierygan’s fingers curled around mine again.

“It’s time,” he said.

Hand in hand, we walked to the center of the square where the great fire pit awaited. I felt hundreds of eyes tracking our every step. And then-one by one-they began to follow. Not me.

Him. Their king. Their dragon.

We stopped before the fire pit. Ulyanna and Evander appeared at my side as Kierygan stepped

away.

“Stay with them,” he said without looking back, already turning from me.

A powerful gust tore through the square as the thunderous beat of wings shook the air. Then, in a flash of silver and blue, his scaled form surged skyward.

Gasps echoed as he ascended, colossal and radiant with reflected firelight. He climbed higher, cutting across the velvet night-and for one breathless moment, the world watched in awe.

Everyone’s eyes were turned to the sky.

All of a sudden, I felt a chill crawl up the back of my neck. That same eerie sensation again.

The feeling of being watched.

Before I could move, something draped over me. A veil… or a shadow-I couldn’t tell. The world

blurred and dimmed.

“Ulyanna?” I called, breathless. “Evander?”

No answer.

They stood right beside me, yet they didn’t respond

“Ulyanna? Evander!” I called again, louder now.

They couldn’t hear me. Couldn’t see me.

Panic surged, but only for a heartbeat.

Then pain exploded across the back of my head. An unseen force struck hard and fast. I staggered forward, fighting to stay upright. To scream. To stay awake.

Another brutal blow came, this one sending me reeling.

“Help…” I croaked, tears spilling from my eyes.

Darkness swallowed me before I hit the ground.

I woke to the sound of distant cheers. A roar of celebration-faint, muffled, far away.

My head throbbed, each pulse sharp and blinding. When I tried to move, pain lanced down my spine. My limbs refused to obey.

Panic surged as I realized my hands and feet were tightly bound. Rope scraped against raw skin. My back ached terribly. I was lying on something rough… hard… uneven.

Cobblestone? Charred stone? Or packed earth?

A gasp slipped from my lips as I blinked up at the darkened sky. The crowd was still cheering-still watching the majestic wings soaring above, captivated.

They didn’t see me.

But I could feel it now, taste it. Magic wrapping around me like a shroud, trying to hide me from the
