Chapter 143 Enough
He’d come in here to use the bathroom, and she’d actually followed him in without a shred of shame. What was he supposed to do with this?
Stefan knew he couldn’t stay any longer-he needed to avoid any misunderstandings.
He reached out to open the door and leave.
But Margery blocked the handle. If he reached further, he’d only end up touching her.
“Is this fun for you?”
Stefan looked at her, his gaze calm and utterly flat.
“Stefan…”
Margery couldn’t hold back any longer. Her voice broke as she called his name, and she suddenly lunged forward, wrapping her arms tightly around him.
Sobbing quietly, she breathed in the faint scent of tobacco on him-something she used to hate, but now she couldn’t get enough, inhaling greedily.
She held on tight, desperately, as if trying to merge herself into him. She was terrified too-terrified that if she let go, the man in front of her would disappear from her world again.
Stefan’s expression didn’t change. He reached up and pressed against her shoulders, trying to push her away, but she wouldn’t budge. She clung to him, with no intention of letting go.
“Margery. Have some self-respect.” His voice was cold. “I came in here to take a plss. Your following me in is already insane. Now you’re hugging me? What’s your angle? We’re done.”
“Stefan, I love you. I really, truly love you!”
Margery looked up, her flawless face streaked with tears. The sight of her-so pitiful, so beautiful-could melt even a heart of steel.
“Love me?” Stefan laughed, his tone icy. “If you really loved me, you’d have boundaries. If you really loved me, you’d know to keep your distance and not put me in an awkward position. But you didn’t. None of it.”
Margery was desperate now. “Are you still hung up on Fidel? There was never anything between us. I only ever saw him as a senior from school!”
She continued, “If you don’t believe me, come home with me tonight. I’ll give you everything You can see for yourself-I’m still untouched!”
Stefan couldn’t help but laugh at that.
Before he went to prison, they’d lived together for a year, but they’d never slept together. The most intimate they’d ever gotten was hugging and kissing. Margery had wanted to save herself for their wedding night, and Stefan had respected that.
