"Stop it! You're so bad," Sylvia squealed, burying her face in her hands.

"Don't deny it. You've been glowing lately. They say all that action is a miracle worker for your complexion."

"Really?" The other girls flocked around them.

"Obviously. Look at Sylvia's skin. She's getting thoroughly taken care of by Mr. Quincy."

Sylvia playfully swatted at her friends as the group erupted into giggles.

By the door, the blood in Jillian's veins turned to liquid nitrogen.

She should have known. Killian was barely ever home.

And the man had a ravenous sexual appetite.

When they first got married, before her body was ruined, he had despised her just as much, but he had still dragged her into his bed.

Just because he wouldn't touch her now didn't mean he was practicing celibacy.

Jillian squeezed her eyes shut, drawing in jagged breaths to fend off a total breakdown.

Suddenly, the locker room door swung open, and someone plowed right into her.

Jillian gasped, stumbling back and clutching her head.

"Watch it! Don't blame me if you're standing right in the doorway," the woman snapped.

Jillian squeezed her eyes tight, rubbed her temple, and walked out into the corridor.

Watching the pathetic scene from afar, Sylvia let out a mocking scoff.

But there was no triumph in it.

It was almost boring. Jillian wasn't even on the same playing field.

...

The moment Jillian walked out of the aquatic center, her phone buzzed.

It was Killian.

"Did you conveniently forget what today is?"

His voice was a serrated blade, effortlessly carving into her open wounds.

Jillian racked her brain.

Today was the family dinner at the main estate.

They were required to attend every other week.

If anything threw off the schedule, Sienna would personally summon them.

"I forgot."

The family exchanged surprised looks, but no one pressed the issue.

"How is the SwiftPath project progressing?" the matriarch asked between bites.

"Smoothly. We're on schedule. We plan to secure Rohmbach Automotive for the hardware infrastructure while keeping the software R&D in-house," Killian answered evenly.

"We poured billions of dollars into SwiftPath. That is not loose change, even for the Quincys. You cannot afford to lose focus."

Killian nodded.

"Who's running point? Are you leading it yourself?"

"No, my plate is full. I'll be appointing a dedicated director."

"Good."

Jillian kept her eyes glued to her plate, eating quietly as if she were a ghost haunting a stranger's house.

"Jillian, why are you so late today? Why didn't you arrive with Killian and Connor?" Eleanor asked, pivoting suddenly.

"I was at the pool."

Pfft!

Natalie Quincy choked on a laugh.

"You'd better bring a couple of extra life preservers next time, Jillian."
