Sienna was delighted. "That's wonderful! You should spend more time with your mom. That way, your mom and dad can stay good friends."
After dinner, Sean brought the topic back around. "Since the divorce is settled, think seriously about your next relationship. If you plan to marry Sylvia, start making preparations early."
Killian replied flatly, "I have no immediate plans to remarry."
"Will Sylvia be willing to wait?"
"That has nothing to do with me. I won't be marrying her."
At that very moment, the mood in Sylvia's household was entirely different.
Madeline Xavier placed a choice piece of meat onto her daughter's plate. "I was terrified Jillian would pull some stunt during the cooling-off period. Thank God it all went smoothly."
Silas Xavier chimed in. "Exactly. Now it's time to start focusing on Sylvia and Killian's wedding. What did Killian say about it?"
Ever since they returned from the historic town, Killian's attitude toward her had been distinctly frigid.
He seemed to think she was being overly dramatic and had even cut the trip short by a day.
Sylvia, letting her rich-girl entitlement get the better of her, hadn't bothered to hide her resentment from him.
A simple apology and a bit of sweet-talking could have smoothed things over, but she was too stubborn to be the first one to cave.
Not wanting her parents to catch on to the rift, Sylvia forced a smile. "We're going to sort out the details ourselves."
Just as she spoke, Gibson Xavier walked through the door. A maid hurried over to take his coat.
Gibson's face was completely devoid of emotion, and he completely ignored her.
The maid quietly backed away.
Madeline looked surprised. "What's wrong? Did something happen at work?"
"Sylvia, in my study. Now," Gibson commanded.
Madeline and Silas exchanged shocked looks; it was incredibly rare for Gibson to speak to his sister that way.
Defiant, Sylvia crossed her arms. "I'm not going anywhere."
Gibson slammed a file down onto the dining table, landing right in front of her plate.
"Then you can explain it right here in front of Mom."
