Jillian figured that with winter break starting, she should bring Connor over to stay with her for a few days.
She took the initiative and dialed Killian's number. This time, he didn't decline the call. He answered almost immediately.
"What is it?" Killian's tone was as cold and distant as ever.
"The kids are on winter break. I want to bring Connor over for a few days. Stella really misses him, too," Jillian said softly.
There was a brief silence on the line. Then, Jillian heard Killian call out Connor's name.
A few moments later, the sound of light, eager footsteps approached the phone.
"Mom!" Connor's bright voice carried through the speaker, brimming with joy.
Hearing her son's voice instantly put Jillian at ease. "Are you officially on break?" she asked warmly.
"Yeah, I am!"
"Mom wants to bring you over to stay for a few days, how does that sound?"
Connor looked up at Killian standing beside him.
Killian stated flatly, "Make your own decision."
With permission granted, Connor eagerly replied, "Yes! I want to go!"
Jillian let out a quiet sigh of relief. She had been worried that Killian's recent anger toward her might have spilled over into badmouthing her to Connor. She was terrified it would ruin her relationship with her son.
Clearly, he hadn't done that.
"I'll come pick you up after work today, alright?"
"Okay, Mom!"
Killian took the phone back, his voice returning to a neutral monotone. "We aren't at The Yale Residences right now."
"Where are you?"
"The Stonebridge Mountain Retreat. I'll text you the address."
