"Did he, or did he not, kiss you like this?" Killian backed her into the corner, his presence utterly suffocating.

Pushed past her breaking point, Jillian intentionally provoked him. "Yes! Happy now? He's younger than you, so naturally he has much better—"

Before she could finish, Killian's hand shot out. His fingers wrapped around her throat.

The grip was restrained but incredibly dominating. He forced Jillian to tilt her head back and look at him. His palm burned against her skin, fully tracking her ragged breathing and the frantic flutter of her pulse.

Killian's eyes were pitch black, his voice low, obsessive, and wildly possessive. "Ever since I was a child, there is nothing I hate more than someone touching what's mine."

Jillian laughed internally, a bitter, hollow sound.

A man with Killian's personality was bound to be insanely possessive.

The tragic irony was that she had never belonged in his category of prized possessions.

Suddenly, a small voice echoed from the doorway. "Mom?"

Connor was standing there, staring at them in stunned silence.

They snapped back to reality. Killian immediately dropped his hand.

Desperate to keep the boy from noticing anything sinister, both of them forcefully leveled their breathing and locked down their emotions.

Jillian swallowed her blinding rage and forced a strained smile. "Are you all packed?"

Connor gave a numb nod.

"Let's go then." Jillian completely ignored Killian, walking straight toward her son. As she passed Killian, she deliberately let her shoulder slam into his—a silent, defiant 'screw you.'

Connor quietly wheeled his little suitcase, trailing behind Jillian without a single word.

They climbed into the car. The atmosphere inside the cabin was painfully suffocating.

Jillian knew her son had likely seen everything, but this wasn't the time to explain. She would have to gently walk him through it once they got home.

She started the engine, pulling the car out of the estate's gates.

As they rolled past the entrance, one of the housekeepers kindly warned her, "The snow is coming down hard. Drive safely on the roads, Mrs. Quincy."

Jillian's lips twitched into a self-deprecating smile.
