"Then when does Mr. Quincy think would be an appropriate time?"

Killian stared at her, his dark eyes unfathomable.

"Get the hell out and wait for my call!" he finally spat out with chilling indifference.

Jillian turned and walked toward the door, tears welling in her eyes.

"Take your trash with you."

Jillian took a deep breath, turned back around, and crouched down to pick up the scattered divorce papers from the floor.

A single tear slipped loose, splattering onto the paper.

Killian furrowed his brow in blatant disgust.

Leaving the office, Jillian could no longer hold it in. Tears cascaded down her cheeks like a broken string of pearls.

The public area was bustling with people, all of them casting curious glances her way.

"Who is she?"

"No idea."

"Dressed like that... is she here interviewing for a janitor position?"

"Hahaha."

The mocking whispers pierced her ears, their gazes dripping with unmistakable ridicule.

Unable to bear it any longer, Jillian covered her mouth and bolted for the stairwell.

Killian had summoned her here solely to humiliate her.

Because he didn't love her, everything she did was wrong.

Nate hurried after her, offering a pack of tissues. "I'm sorry, ma'am. Sylvia arrived first thing this morning and has been in the office all day. Mr. Quincy gave strict orders that no one was to enter without his permission."

So that was why she had been forced to wait so long?

Jillian ignored the tissues and wiped her tears away herself. "I'm fine."

Nate nodded and walked away.

Taking a deep breath, Jillian pulled a compact mirror from her bag. Her nose was red from crying, tear streaks stained her cheeks, and the light makeup she had applied that morning was completely ruined.

Forget men—even she loathed the pathetic woman staring back at her.

By the time the ordeal was over, it was already 1:00 PM.

Sylvia and Killian, on the other hand, had known each other since childhood.

Jillian had been a bit calculating back then. She found out Sylvia ran in the same circles as Killian, so she decided to befriend her in hopes of an introduction.

She joined the same club as Sylvia.

During one group activity, she went to the restroom and returned to find her backpack ruined by spilled coffee.

Sylvia approached her directly, apologizing for the accident and offering to buy her a new one.

Through these interactions, the two became acquainted.

But they never became actual friends; they merely knew each other.

Jillian had honestly forgotten she even knew someone named Sylvia.

"What brings you here?" Sylvia asked, her large, beautiful eyes wide with curiosity.

Jillian took a sip of her coffee. "Just walking around. And you?"

"I'm here to see my boyfriend," Sylvia replied with a coy tilt of her head.

Elegant and sweet, sophisticated and gentle, her features radiated the flushed glow of a woman deeply nourished by love, giving her a uniquely vibrant charm.
