Just as the tension reached a boiling point, Zander came home from work.

Renata quickly resumed her relaxed demeanor and went to greet him. "Zander, you're home early today?"

"Yeah, my mom said she wasn't feeling well, so I came back to check on her."

Renata dug her nails into her palms. Last night, an entire layer of skin had been scalded off her back.

Renata almost cursed him out loud.
