Lianne's pupils widened in shock, unable to process what was happening for a long moment.
When it finally clicked, the spoon in her hand clattered into the bowl.
Renata was equally stunned. Almost entirely on instinct, she shot a venomous glare at the trembling maid, Anna.
Anna had no idea when or how she had dropped the takeout receipt while taking out the trash.
A dead silence fell over the room.
Suddenly, Renata lunged at Anna, raising her hand and delivering another brutal slap to the girl's face.
"You worthless little bitch! I asked you to make soup for Mrs. Calvert, and you dared to order takeout instead? How could you be so malicious!"
She grabbed Anna by the hair and dragged her over to Lianne.
Faking an expression of anger and grievance, she cried, "Mrs. Calvert, to tell you the truth, I accidentally scalded myself with boiling water last night. I really wasn't feeling well. When Zander asked me to make soup for you, I didn't have the heart to disappoint him, so I asked this maid to help. I never imagined she would be so lazy and order takeout behind my back..."
As Renata spoke, she lifted the hem of her top, revealing a massive, purplish-red burn mark.
Lianne's brain short-circuited.
Initially, she was furious that Renata had pawned off takeout on her.
But hearing the explanation and seeing the horrific burn, she unconditionally chose to believe her.
Her furious gaze suddenly locked onto Queenie. "Did you put her up to this?"
Queenie let out a dry, exasperated laugh. She had actually tried to help expose the truth.
And somehow, the mud was being slung at her.
"Mrs. Calvert, even if you want to turn a blind eye, you don't have to be this delusional. Even I can tell this soup is the exact same one from Thanksgiving. Don't tell me you can't taste the difference? Going by your logic, did I force Renata to order takeout for you on Thanksgiving night too?"
"Today's soup tastes obviously worse! Queenie, I really didn't expect you to sink this low. Just to force Dr. Whitlock out, you're coming up with all these schemes to frame her.
Since you joined our family three years ago, I've always treated you like a daughter. I thought you were innocent and kind-hearted, but I clearly misjudged you. My daughter was right—you're no good at all!"
Queenie finally couldn't help but laugh out loud.
She had done something incredibly stupid—going out of her way to expose the truth for someone who didn't deserve it.
She should have just let Lianne eat Renata's toxic takeout until she dropped dead.
Smack—
Renata slapped Anna again, doubling down on her lie. "Tell me! Did she pay you to frame me?
