“Jessa took the pendant?”
“That thief! She’ll do anything to get her way.” Grandma Chelsea and Lilly both fumed.
Ella tilted her lips in a cold little smile. “Does Jessa really think snatching the pendant fixes everything? The truth is the truth. Lies can’t become real, no matter how hard she tries. Let’s go back to the hospital.”
“Alright.”
…
In the hospital room, Jessa sat beside Rachel, clutching her mother’s hand, her voice tight with nerves. “Mom, did you get David to come back?”
Rachel nodded. “He’s here. He and Aiden are talking in the hallway. He’ll be in soon.”
Jessa let out a shaky breath, her shoulders relaxing a bit. “So David still cares about me. Of course he does. I saved his life. As long as I’m still his savior, he won’t just walk away from me.”
She glanced at Rachel, lowering her voice. “Mom, what about the kidnappers and that doctor? Did you handle it?”
Rachel’s mouth curved with satisfaction. “Don’t worry. Everything’s taken care of. I slipped them something before the job even started. Even if they get caught, they won’t say a word. No one will ever know we were behind it. There’s no evidence.”
Rachel had learned her lesson from before. This time, she’d spent a fortune to make sure nothing could be traced back to them.
Jessa still looked frustrated. “We planned everything so carefully, and Ella still got away. Plus, we didn’t get rid of her baby. I saw Grandma Chelsea show up too. I’m scared David will find out the truth, that Ella’s baby is his.”
Rachel’s face grew serious, but she softened her tone. “Jessa, you need to calm down. Don’t panic. As long as you keep Mr. Harmon close, nothing will go wrong.”
Jessa nodded. “I get it, Mom.”
Just then, David walked in.
