Lilly tried to defend her cousin. “Ella, Mr. Harmon has been fooled by Jessa this whole time. Maybe he was clueless, but he’s a victim too. He didn’t know it was you.”

She still hoped, deep down, that Ella and David could find their way back to each other.

Lilly gave up and managed a gentle smile. “Okay, Ella. You should try to get some rest.”

Rachel jumped in. “Ella’s got a nasty grudge, and she’s manipulative. She knows exactly how to play people. Mr. Harmon, don’t let her innocent looks fool you.”

David’s gaze was cold as he looked at them both. “Ella agreed to do the heart surgery for Jessa.”
