Jace felt that rush again, the same wild urge he remembered from last time, back when everything had spun out of control. It was the kind of feeling that hit when you’re alone in your room, watching something you shouldn’t, all secret and off-limits. He was at that age, right on the edge of everything, curiosity burning, energy always running high.
Jace went quiet.
Lilly noticed a flush creeping up his neck, and her eyes widened in surprise. She never expected someone as cool and aloof as Jace to blush.
She smirked and leaned in. “Jace, are you blushing?”
He shot her a look. “No.”
She laughed. “Come on, you definitely are.” She reached out, aiming for his cheek.
Jace pulled back, dodging her. “Cut it out.”
Lilly didn’t let up. She moved closer, her lips right by his ear, whispering, “Jace, do you want me to help you like I did last time?”
Images flashed through his mind. That night in his room, her on his bed, insisting they watch together, and then everything that followed... Now she was offering to help again.
He wanted to say no, but those big, pretty eyes of hers blinked up at him, all innocent, and before he could get a word out, she pressed herself against him, close enough to steal his breath.
“Lilly…” he murmured her name, voice rough.
Lilly felt just as shy, but she was braver than him. She rose up on her toes and kissed him softly. “What is it?” she breathed, her hand trailing down his chest.
She loved this side of him. The way his usual serious, untouchable vibe just fell away, how he watched her with red-rimmed eyes, totally undone, gasping for air, every bit of him burning with a need only she could satisfy. Only she got to see him like this.
And every time, it sent a shiver through her. She really did like him.
“Jace, do you like me?” she asked.
