Jessa wasn’t pretending this time. Her heart really hurt, and cold sweat was pouring down her forehead.
But David just ignored her, like she was the girl who cried wolf one too many times. Now she was truly abandoned.
Ella walked over and stared down at her. “Jessa, stop fooling yourself. There was never any surgery.”
It finally hit Jessa. “So that’s it. This was all your plan. You’ve known the whole time I was pretending to be you. You agreed to the surgery just to set me up, so Felix could expose me right here, didn’t you?”
Ella gave a chilly smile. “You’re not as stupid as I thought. Yes, this was all me. I wanted everyone to see who you really are. I wanted the truth to come out about what happened back then.”
Jessa’s voice cracked. “Ella, how could you be so heartless? You’re an Irvine too. Why are you doing this to me?”
Ella let out a cold laugh. “Now you remember we’re family? Where was this energy when you were hurting me? Why is it okay for you to go after me, but I’m not allowed to fight back?”
Grandma Jill rushed up, desperate. “Ella, please, I’m your grandmother…”
“Enough,” Ella cut her off. “I don’t need a grandmother like you. Stick with Jessa.”
Her gaze swept across the family, landing on each of them. “I told you all before. I want to know who poisoned my dad. Whoever did it should turn themselves in and spend the rest of their life paying for it. This won’t end until you do.”
Her words landed hard, leaving everyone pale and silent.
Wyatt stepped up. “Ella, you’re pregnant. You can’t get too worked up. Let’s get you some rest.”
Ella nodded. “Alright.”
The bodyguards dragged her away. The pain in her chest was getting worse, and a wave of fear washed over her.
She knew David wouldn’t care if she lived or died. Desperately, she looked at Rachel and Peter. “Mom, Dad, please help me. My heart really hurts. I don’t want to die, please, please… mph!”
One of the guards covered her mouth, and they yanked her off her feet, dragging her out of the room.
Peter and Rachel tried to run to her, but David’s men blocked them. All they could do was stand there, helpless, watching Jessa disappear. “Jessa! Jessa!”
David turned to the rest of the family. “As for the rest of you…”
Grandma Jill stepped forward quickly. “Mr. Harmon, whatever Jessa did, it has nothing to do with us. Please, don’t take it out on the family. We don’t want to suffer for her mistakes.”
