Why was he calling?
Ella hesitated for a moment, then pressed the answer button. “Hello, Mr. Harmon.”
David’s deep, magnetic voice filled her ear right away. “Ella, why won’t you see me? I just want to talk to you in person.”
Her lashes quivered. “Mr. Harmon, we already talked at the hospital. We cleared up the misunderstanding. There’s really nothing more to say.”
David was quiet for a few seconds. “Ella, can we meet, just once? I…”
“No.” Ella cut him off, not giving him any chance to keep talking.
The line went silent.
“It’s late, Mr. Harmon. I’m going to bed now.” Ella spoke softly and then hung up.
Lilly looked over. “Ella, if you don’t want to see him, then don’t. But Jessa is in his hands now, and he’s already given the Irvine family three days. When time’s up, we’ll know who the real killer is. We’re not letting the person who hurt your dad get away with it.”
Fiona nodded in agreement. “Exactly. The Irvine family is disgusting. They have to pay for what they did. Whatever you went through before, Ella, you deserve justice, twice over.”
Wyatt stood and stretched. “Ella, have you thought it through? When everything’s finished here, will you come back with me?”
Ella glanced at Wyatt and nodded. “Yeah, I’ve made up my mind. Once things are settled with the Irvine family, I’ll go back with you.”
Wyatt smiled, relief in his eyes. “Good. Grandpa and the others will be thrilled to hear it.”
Fiona patted Ella’s shoulder. “You should get some rest. We’ll head out.”
“Okay.”
Lilly and Fiona left the apartment together. As soon as they stepped outside, they spotted David near the entrance.
He looked at them, his expression tense. “She still won’t see me, will she?”
