The Genius Ex-Wife’s Revenge Portfolio novel Chapter 596

Lilian clenched her fists, jealousy flickering in her eyes. Sure, she and Jace were engaged, but she could feel it deep down. Jace’s heart was never really hers. It belonged to Lilly.

And now Lilly was back, tangled up in their lives again, and Lilian could feel panic rising in her chest.

She loved Jace. She didn’t want to lose him.

“What’s going on here?” someone demanded.

Lilian, already frustrated, snapped, “Everyone just leave. Now!”

The crowd scattered in an instant.

That’s when Brandon showed up. He looked at her with concern. “Lilian, what happened? Who upset you?”

Lilian threw her arms around her dad, holding on tight. “Dad, you’re finally here.”

Brandon glanced around the room. “Where’s Jace? Wasn’t he with you tonight? Why are you here all alone?”

Lilian didn’t want to say anything bad about Jace. “He just went to the restroom. Dad, I’m scared... I don’t want to lose him. I want to marry Jace, and I want to do it soon.”

“Why are you suddenly in such a hurry?” Brandon asked.

“I just want to be with him, Dad. But Jace doesn’t seem ready to take that step. You have to help me. Find a way to make him marry me soon.”

She looked up at her dad with big, pleading eyes. “You always say how much you trust Jace. If I get married, you could let Jace run the business. I could have some kids, and then you could retire and spoil your grandkids.”

Brandon burst out laughing. “You really are ready to fly out of the nest. Alright, I’ll think of something to help you.”

“What kind of plan?” she pressed.

Brandon just smiled, eyes twinkling. “Well, maybe it’s time you and Jace made things official.”

Jace stared at her, exasperated. “Do you even know what kind of place this is? You shouldn’t be here. Go back to your own world.”

She stepped closer, a little smile on her lips. “If you’re allowed here, why can’t I be? I wanted to come. And anyway, didn’t you say you don’t know me? So why did you save me? Why do you care?”

Inside, Lilly felt a rush of happiness. Jace hadn’t abandoned her—he’d rescued her from that rich brat. She’d gambled, and she’d won.

Jace braced his hand on the wall beside her head, blocking her in. His chest was so close she could feel the heat from his body. He looked down into her shining eyes and spoke in a low, stern voice. “Lilly, I’ll say it again. You don’t belong here. Go home.”

Lilly shook her head. “I’m not leaving. I want to stay with you.”

Jace met her gaze. “Lilly, there’s no future for us.”

He turned, ready to go.

But Lilly was faster. She threw her arms around his neck and pulled him down, closing the space between them until his handsome face was right there, just a breath away.
