Otto didn't see that coming from Matthew. He had fantasized about beating up Denny Rouse, his apprentice, many times.

Noticing that Otto was silent, Matthew nudged him with another question. "If taking a swing at him won't get it off your chest, I can tie him up, so you can beat him up as much as you want. After that, we'll throw him out. How does that sound?"

Otto shook his head. "Forget it. His uncle is the deputy director of a hospital. We can't afford to mess with him."

Matthew chuckled. "His uncle is merely a deputy director. I don't even people take people like that seriously."

Otto looked concerned. "You don't know how much influence a deputy director holds. I'd love to get back on Denny, but I can't take on someone like that. If we cross him today, I won't be able to show my face in Lambda City again."

Matthew looked at Otto in disbelief. "Is a deputy director that powerful? Does he have that much influence?"

Otto sported a puzzled look and stared at Matthew. He looked like he knew his stuff, so why was his question so naive? He seemed like a college graduate just entering the workforce.

He figured it was necessary to explain just how powerful a deputy director could be. "You really have no idea what a deputy director of a hospital is capable of?

"As a deputy director, he has connections in the health department, education department, police department, cultural affairs department, finance department, tax department, and urban management bureaus. In short, he has ties with any government office in Lambda City."

Matthew looked confused. "Is the deputy director that big of a deal?"

Otto crossed his arms. "You seriously have no clue how powerful his connections are. The government officials care a lot about their family members. When their families get sick, they will want to look for VIP rooms and the best doctors.

"Sometimes, they want the best treatment available. That's when they start calling in favors with the higher-ups in the hospital.

"Even though Denny's uncle is the deputy director at the hospital, he has the connections in Lambda City to get what he wants. If we lay our hands on him, we're done for."
