A powerful figure? Devin hesitated at those words. He had always avoided confrontation, backing down even from ordinary people. Moreover, he harbored a deep-seated fear of those with power and influence.
Just as Devin was caught in this dilemma, his eyes fell on the operating table where Maddock's lifeless body lay. His resolve suddenly hardened.
He snapped, "I don't care if he's the king of the world! What kind of monster does these horrible things? Tell me who this powerful person is!"
Brian's eyes flashed with contempt. As a hospital director who moved in elite circles, he knew real power. Even with his position and wealth, he still had to be careful around certain people.
"Fine! You want to know so badly? It's Jerome Murray, the Director of the Health Department for Lambda City. He's the real mastermind behind everything!" Brian spat out.
Devin's face fell as he realized the implications. Someone at that level had connections everywhere. If the police protected him, what could an ordinary citizen do?
A feeling of helplessness washed over him, and his emotions flickered—frustration, anger, hatred, and despair. He turned to Pierre and asked, "What should we do?"
Pierre looked uncertainly at Matthew. "What do you think?"
Matthew was surprised to hear Jerome's name. He had just spoken with him two days ago about Tony's medical license, but this was far more serious than that. He simply stated, "What's there to think about? We take him down."
"How?" Pierre asked, furrowing his brow.
Matthew approached Brian, looking down at the man kneeling before him. "You're going to bring him here."
Brian froze, realizing these people were capable of anything. As he hesitated, Matthew grabbed a tactical baton from the floor and demonstrated its power by shattering a wooden chair with one strike. Then, he twirled the baton in his hand, eyes locked onto Brian.
Cold sweat ran down Brian's spine as Matthew's piercing gaze bore into him. "I-I'll call him! I promise I'll get him here!"
Matthew gripped the baton silently, waiting for results rather than explanations.
Brian dialed Jerome's number with trembling fingers. "Mr. Murray, this is Brian Zeller."
Matthew smirked, thinking, "This guy really knows how to change his tune depending on who he's talking to."
