Matthew raised an eyebrow and eyed Nicholas closely, trying to tell if he was telling the truth from his expression.

He didn't believe what Nicholas had said because it sounded way too exaggerated. How would he not make it out alive?

Nicholas sighed. "I knew this day was inevitable, but I still hope you'll give it more thought.

"In this world, whatever you see is just the surface—the sun, the moon, the stars, nature, the mountains, the ocean, different types of animals, and various people regardless of gender and age."

Matthew was getting impatient. He heard so much, but none of it was what he wanted to hear.

Nicholas continued, "You're just seeing what's right in front of you. When you were a kid, your parents might teach you to be honest, work hard, and save money. That pretty much seals your fate to live a pretty average life, just going through the motions.

"You just follow the flow, going wherever the world takes you. All you need to do is work hard and be frugal. As long as you put in the effort, you can get through life.

"You won't face too much deception, drama, malice, cruelty, bloodshed, and violence. Still, the world is constantly in conflict. People die at every moment."

Matthew thought about how things were before he went to prison. Back then, he was just living an ordinary life, solving problems with simple solutions—working hard, saving money, and doing his best.
