The Heiress’ Return: Six Brothers at Her Beck and Call (Wynter Quinnell) novel Chapter 1931

Freddy then turned to the drawer. He crouched down and saw the strand of hair he had deliberately placed there. If the drawer had been moved, the hair would surely have fallen to the floor. After checking, he stood up, picked up a document, and walked out.

Jefferson said in a deep voice, "There's no rule against bringing kids to the office, but you should report it in advance."

Wynter nodded firmly. "Thank you, Mr. Paige."

Just then, Freddy stepped out of the office. His sharp eyes swept over them and lingered for nearly a minute before he finally spoke. "You should head home soon."

Wynter replied, "Thank you for your concern, Mr. Artie. We'll leave as soon as we finish organizing these documents."

Freddy nodded slightly and left with Jefferson.

After the two walked out of the company, Freddy looked at Jefferson. "I just feel like something is wrong."

Jefferson reassured him. "Mr. Artie, you might be reading too much into it. They just brought a child to the company—it's no big deal."

Freddy nodded slightly. "Have you investigated their backgrounds?"

Jefferson paused for a second. "I haven't. Their accents clearly indicate they're from Cascadia, and it makes sense they'd come to Havenia for work. But if you're concerned, I'll send someone over first thing tomorrow to check."

"Do it discreetly," Freddy said. After getting into the car, he asked, "What about Thea?"

Jefferson lowered his voice. "We have turned that blank sheet into a resignation agreement, stamped and sealed. Our people are already on the way. She'll be handed over to the client tonight."

"Good." Freddy closed his eyes and said, "Take me home."

Jefferson started the car and drove off.

Meanwhile, Wynter kept organizing the documents. "It's a good thing I reacted quickly just now. Otherwise, we would have been caught."

Dalton chuckled softly. "But Mr. Artie didn't look entirely convinced. He'll probably send someone to investigate us."

Wynter's eyes darkened. "I know. I've already taken care of it. The addresses and details on our résumés are all real, and the people there are ready to play their parts.

"Also, Mr. Artie is very cautious, placing a strand of hair in the drawer. Luckily, I put it back exactly as it was. He doesn't act like an ordinary boss, more like someone trained by certain people."

Dalton nodded. "It's very likely. His file shows he spent some time abroad, but there's no record of what he did during that period."

"Exactly." Wynter turned to look at Wolf, who was munching on snacks. "How much longer can you keep the surveillance running?"

Wolf turned his head. "Hmm, about ten more minutes. After that, we'll have to restore it, or they'll notice something's off."

Hearing that, Wynter stood up. "Wolf, come with me. His computer files are probably password-protected or encrypted. I'm leaving that to you."

Wolf reluctantly pulled his eyes away from the cartoon. He stood up and followed her.

She looked at Dalton. "These files are yours. I'll be back in ten minutes."

Dalton replied with a smile, "Got it."

Wynter didn't waste another second. She strode straight into the office, with Wolf trotting behind.

Once inside, Wolf plopped down into the desk chair, powered on the computer, and typed in the password with practiced ease. Following Wynter's instructions, he opened the hidden folder and began cracking it.

Meanwhile, she gently opened the drawer, placed the strand of hair on the desk, and took out all the files inside. She took a moment to memorize the order in which they were arranged before flipping through them one by one.

Everything seemed normal at first glance. So, her gaze shifted to the safe nearby. It required a password as well.

Wynter walked over, bent down, and studied it closely. After that, she turned and walked out of the office.

Across the room, she saw an empty milk carton on a desk. She quickly walked over, tore the milk carton into pieces, and slowly peeled off a thin film from inside.

Then, Wynter immediately returned to the safe. She crouched down, found the right angle, and slowly pressed the film onto it.

After a while, she removed it. Four faint marks were visible. It clearly indicated the code was four digits long.

Wynter closed her eyes, recalling Freddy's profile she'd seen earlier. His birthday matched perfectly with these four digits. She quickly entered his birthday, but it showed an error.

Only three attempts were allowed. If all failed, the safe would lock itself.

A four-digit code and his birthday… If the standard order didn't work, maybe it was reversed.

With that thought, Wynter entered his birth date backward. As she pressed the final digit and hit confirm, the safe slowly unlocked.

Inside were some bundles of cash and a document folder. She took the folder out and flipped through it carefully.

The file contained detailed records of every employee. Beside each profile were notes listing their physical attributes such as blood type, heart and lung status, and a full set of organ-related markers.

Then, she reached the pages on herself and Dalton. Both were labeled as perfect.

Wynter's lips curved slightly. Yesterday's so-called health check had seemed normal on the surface. Yet, it was actually an assessment to determine each employee's most viable organs.

This way, it wouldn't raise suspicion and would give others a sense of security. The whole scheme had landed squarely in her lap.

However, among these files, Thea's one was nowhere to be found.

At the end of each profile, there was also a blank sheet of paper bearing the employee's own signature.

Wynter's eyes darkened. Thea was still in the company, but her file was gone. The only possibility was that someone had already set their sights on her organs.

Just then, Wolf's voice rang out. "Boss, it's cracked. Come take a look."

Wynter quickly stood up and walked over. Wolf slid his chair aside to make room.

She took the mouse and opened the files, scrolling through them. The more she looked, the more surreal it all seemed.

The files were filled with customer profiles, each listing their requirements in detail. All the clients were from overseas.

Wynter glanced at the time. She then took out the flash drive from her pocket and began copying the files, including the hidden ones.

Once the transfer was completed, she pocketed the drive and carefully returned the documents to the safe. Everything was restored to its original place.

After closing the computer, the two of them stepped out of the room. They left no trace, as if no one had ever been there.

Wynter walked over to them. "Are you done?"

Dalton nodded. "Everything's organized. We can leave now."

With that, the three of them headed toward the door.

Outside, there was a KFC not far down the road. Wolf tugged at Wynter's sleeve and said, "Boss, I'm still craving KFC."

Wynter nodded. "Alright. Let's get you something."

Wolf grinned. "You're the best! Fried chicken and burgers, here we come!"

They entered the restaurant. Wolf went to place the order, while Wynter and Dalton found a quiet corner to sit.

Wynter spoke first. "Do you know what kind of company this is?"

Dalton glanced up. "Human or organ trafficking."

"How do you know everything?"
