Meanwhile, over 100 people had gathered in a certain corner of Mordawn, a location in Havenia.
A middle-aged man standing in front of the crowd declared loudly, "I'm sure everyone is gathered here right now because of those online posts. Truthfully speaking, as a Havenian, I couldn't help but shudder when I read those long articles. What kind of horrible people are those mainlanders?
"Forget their backward mentality! Now they're even setting their sights on Havenia. It's no wonder incidents continue to occur in Havenia. Not only are there people jumping from buildings, but there are also people going missing. The mainlanders are definitely related to these incidents!
"All of you gathered here right now are people with consciences. We won't allow the mainlanders to bring harm to Havenia! We must drive these people out and stop them from setting foot in Havenia again!"
Everyone shouted in agreement, "That's right! The mainlanders have been causing trouble ever since coming to Havenia. If they one day set their sights on us, we won't even know what hit us."
"Let's drive the mainlanders out of Havenia! Bring peace back to Havenia!"
"Drive them out!"
Seeing this, the middle-aged man waved a hand. "Quiet down, everyone! We'll set out immediately, and whenever we encounter any mainlanders, we'll capture them on the spot! We'll then be able to drive them out together!"
"Let's go!" roared the crowd.
As soon as that was said, the crowd of over 100 people started moving toward the city. Their voices echoed throughout the entirety of Mordawn.
This wasn't an isolated occurrence in Mordawn, either. Many people gathered in the same fashion in several other areas, coming together to drive out the mainlanders all at once.
In an instant, the mainlanders became a target of public criticism. While they couldn't be differentiated from Havenians based on skin color, they could be easily recognized by their accents. The Havenians would capture anyone with a questionable accent.
Meanwhile, Wynter and Dalton were returning to the hotel with Wolf in tow. They had just arrived at the hotel entrance when they saw the crowd of people from a distance.
Wynter frowned. "I didn't expect them to be so quick. These people have already started taking action."
Dalton's expression was cold. "All it takes is someone believing in one-sided statements, throwing around some money, and letting some other people take the lead. People will naturally start coming together in a united front."
There were many shops along the opposite side of the street, but most of them had quickly closed their doors upon seeing the situation.
Just then, they saw a man with dyed blond hair leisurely chasing after a young lady with a bat. "Where are you running, mainland bitch?"
The mainlander lady looked at the crowd in horror. She'd just graduated from university and had traveled to Havenia to relax. She hadn't expected to find herself in such a situation just two days after arriving.
She ran to the entrance of a shop before turning to look back at the blond man—Blayne Kettle. "What do you guys want?"
Blayne laughed loudly. "What do we want? A mainland bitch like you is asking me about what you people have done? We're going to capture you, of course!
"You're a pretty one, though. If you want to stay safe here, it's not impossible. Just come with me, and I'll guarantee your safety."
The lady shook her head vehemently. "No! In your dreams!"
She then quickly ran into one of the shops, and Blayne and several others followed her.
Blayne said loudly, "If anyone here has a brain, you'll hurry up and scram. Otherwise, don't blame us if you get caught in the crossfire."
Upon hearing this, the customers in the shop quickly ran outside one after another.
The young lady was standing behind the shopkeeper, a man by the name of Conrad Durand. Blayne pointed his bat at Conrad and declared, "Take a hint and hand over that mainlander."
Conrad asked coldly, "What do you guys think you're doing? Are you treating the Havenian police as nonexistent?"
Blayne smiled. "Are you trying to reason with me, old man? Let me spell things out for you—the entirety of Havenia is looking for these mainlanders right now in order to drive them out. Don't tell me you haven't been paying attention to the trending news."
Conrad replied in a low voice, "I don't care about all that. This young lady is in my shop right now, so I can't allow you to do whatever you want!"
Blayne said mockingly, "I was offering you a chance out of respect, old man. Since you refused, don't blame me for what happens next. Smash everything, boys!"
As he spoke, he swung his baseball bat toward the shop. Several people behind him started doing the same as well.
In just a short while, the furnishings within the shop were all shattered to pieces.
Blayne, tired of causing destruction, sat down in a chair. "This is your last chance. Hand over the woman, or you're done for, too!"
Conrad said nothing. He simply continued to keep the young lady protected behind him.
"So, you like playing the hero, huh?" Blayne asked with an evil laugh. "Capture those two! Take them both away!"
Conrad gazed fixedly at him. "If you want to take her away, you'll have to get past me first."
By then, Blayne had run out of patience. He picked up his baseball bat without a word and walked directly toward Conrad. Then, he raised the bat and swung it toward Conrad's legs.
At the critical moment, just as the bat was an inch away from connecting with Conrad's legs, it froze in midair.
Blayne was stunned. He looked down to see that his bat was being held firmly by a child—Wolf. No matter how much strength he used, he couldn't move the bat a single inch.
He frowned. "Where'd this brat come from?"
As soon as he finished speaking, Wolf snatched the baseball bat from him and swung it at his legs. He fell to the floor in pain.
"What are you guys just standing around for? Beat that kid up!" he shouted.
Just then, Wynter walked over to him from the entrance. "Aren't you supposed to be some really awesome person? Weren't you going to break the shopkeeper's legs?"
Blayne lifted his head. "Another mainlander! Just you wait! Others will soon arrive to capture all of you!"
Wynter chuckled. "You were paid quite a lot of money, huh?"
When she said that, Blayne panicked instantly. "What money? We've all just banded together to resist the mainlanders!"
Wynter stomped on him. "Not willing to admit it, are you? Fine. It looks like you don't want your legs anymore."
She turned to look at Wolf and instructed, "Cripple him."
Hearing this, Blayne quickly said, "I'll tell you! I was paid to do all this. The ones who paid me wanted me to organize a group to lead people around and cause trouble."
The people he had brought with him looked sharply toward him at that. "Didn't you say that it was because you couldn't stand the mainlanders' actions, blondie? What do you mean that you took a bribe?"
As Blayne lowered his head, Wynter turned around and replied in his place, "Because he was treating you guys as pawns to create chaos in Havenia."
"How's that possible? I clearly read from the trending articles that the mainlanders intended to target Havenia."
Wynter smiled. "That's because you guys didn't understand the full situation and only believed one side of the story."
She then leaned down to look Blayne in the eyes. "How many mainlanders have you guys captured? Where were they taken?"
Blayne gritted his teeth. "I don't know. People are capturing mainlanders throughout Havenia and taking them to Neonreach."
Wynter nodded and addressed Conrad. "Do you have any rope here, mister? Please tie this blondie up."
Conrad nodded solemnly. "I'll go get it."
The young lady behind him looked at Wynter. "You're also from the mainland…"
Wynter smiled and replied, "Yes. You visited at the wrong time. There are some people who wish to cause chaos in Havenia, and you were also dragged into the situation. Fortunately, this shopkeeper is a good person and protected you."
"May I go with you, then?" asked the young lady. "It's not safe here."
Wynter met her gaze. "I'm going to pay a visit to Neonreach, so it'd be best for you to stay here. Don't run around carelessly."
