Sunlight spilled into the room the next morning.
Wynter kept her tone calm. "You can turn around now."
Dalton slowly turned to face her, and Wynter's breath hitched.
Just a short while ago, she was seeing him in casual wear. Now, dressed in a tailored suit, the precise cut emphasized his broad shoulders and perfectly defined V-shaped frame.
The charcoal-grey suit hugged his tall figure, the tailored waist highlighted his slim build, and the clean lines of the trousers made his long legs look even more striking.
Wynter couldn't take her eyes off him. "It really does fit you perfectly."
Dalton looked down as he adjusted his cuffs. "Is this what you've prepared for me? No wonder you needed my measurements."
Wynter moved closer with a grin. "How does it feel? It's impressive, right?"
Dalton answered steadily, "It's better than any I've worn before. I guess this will be the new benchmark."
As he spoke, the sunlight caught on his wrist's bones, making them gleam like glazed porcelain.
Wynter swallowed hard. "I feel like taking a bite."
Dalton paused, then walked a few steps toward her. Tilting his head, he offered the side of his neck. "Then bite."
Wynter quickly averted her eyes. "I will resist. I won't let myself be swayed by a pretty face.
"Oh, by the way, this suit is a limited edition. Even if someone tried to copy it, they wouldn't come close."
Dalton chuckled softly. "I know. Lamar's designs are one of a kind. How did you even manage to pull this off so quickly?"
Wynter pressed her lips together. "It's not that hard. Things just go fast when I'm motivated. I take forever when I'm either stalling or overwhelmed. Honestly, I usually just don't feel like doing it."
Dalton leaned in slightly. "Then I'll make sure this unique suit is well taken care of."
Wynter's heart skipped a beat. "You…"
She leaned in and bit down on his neck as she spoke. Tempting her once or twice was one thing, but using the veins in his neck to test her self-control was a challenge no one could pass.
Even though Dalton had braced himself, the pain still made him hiss softly.
Wynter didn't stop. Her lips stayed on his neck as she sucked greedily, like she was feasting on her favorite treat, unable to resist the temptation laid out before her.
After a moment, the sting faded, and Wynter finally pulled away from his skin.
She looked up, slightly breathless. "Don't tease me like that next time."
Dalton rubbed the fresh bite mark. "Then maybe I'll just use my charm next time."
"You can try." Wynter reached over and picked up a watch. "Put this on."
Its dark blue sheen glinted under the light, perfectly complementing his suit.
Dalton held out his wrist. "Would you help me with it, Ms. Quinnell?"
Wynter raised a brow. "Already stepping into your CEO role, huh? Aren't you eager, little lamb?"
Dalton nodded without missing a beat. "I figure I should start getting used to it."
Wynter looked at his face, drew in a deep breath, and told herself to hold it together. After all, she did need his help right now.
"Give me your hand." She fastened the watch onto his wrist. "There. Do you want to take a look in the mirror?"
Dalton's voice was smooth and pleasing. "No need. I trust your taste."
Wynter tilted her chin, half amused. "Feel free to keep the compliments coming."
As she said that, she quickly tidied herself up. After all, a secretary should look the part. However, Wynter wasn't aiming to be glamorous this time. She was going for a sharp and capable image.
Once they were both ready, Wynter walked over to Wolf's bed and yanked him up by the ear. "Up. Out. You've got five minutes. If you're not ready by then, I'm leaving without you."
Still half-asleep, Wolf blinked his eyes open. "Mmm… alright."
He wobbled to the sink, barely steady on his feet, and began brushing his teeth and washing up.
Dalton looked over at him. "What role should Wolf play today?"
Wynter pondered for a moment. "Your bodyguard or younger brother. Take your pick."
Dalton paused. "He's got the skills for a bodyguard, sure, but he doesn't look the part. I'm combining both—he's my bodyguard and younger brother."
Wynter snapped her fingers. "Perfect. Winners don't make choices—we take them all. What we're doing today might attract some attention."
Dalton gave her a sidelong glance. "It's fine. With Wolf around, we've got muscle. You and I just need to look the part of a helpless CEO and his secretary."
While washing his face, Wolf suddenly sneezed and looked back at them. "Boss, were you talking about me just now?"
Wynter shook her head. "Nope. Just hurry up. We're leaving soon."
Wolf mumbled an "okay" and went back to his routine.
A short while later, the three of them stepped outside.
Wynter looked at Wolf. "You're Mr. Leprechaun's younger brother today, so you have to call him Dalton."
Wolf blinked in confusion. "Dalton?"
Wynter nodded. "Exactly. We've got a big job today, so listen and behave."
Wolf muttered under his breath, "Alright. Then what do I call you?"
Wynter answered without thinking, "Ms. Quinnell."
As they reached the entrance, they saw an SUV already parked outside. The driver stepped out to greet them. "Ms. Quinnell, Mr. Chamberlain sent me. Just let me know where you'd like to go."
Wynter gave him a nod. "Take us to a busy exchange center—the biggest and most populated one you can find."
The driver stepped aside. "Understood. Please, get in. I'll take you there."
Wynter waved Dalton toward the car. "After you, Mr. Yarwood."
Dalton gave a faint nod and stepped inside, with Wynter and Wolf close behind.
The exchange center wasn't far, and the driver, clearly familiar with the area, pulled up smoothly right in front of the building.
"Ms. Quinnell, Mr. Yarwood, we've arrived," he announced.
Wynter glanced at a nearby parking lot. "Once we get out, park over there and wait for us."
The driver nodded. "Got it."
As it neared the exchange's opening time, the crowd outside began to swell. A luxury SUV didn't attract much attention on its own, but the handsome man and elegant woman stepping out of it certainly did.
"Which wealthy family is he from? Is something big happening? Why is someone like him showing up in person?"
"We should keep an eye on them. When someone like that makes a move, it's bound to mean something!"
"Exactly. Follow their trades. They can't go wrong."
Wynter led the way with Wolf at her side, smiling politely as they made their way through the crowd.
Dalton frowned and reached out, gently pulling her back. "You—"
Wynter turned slightly and whispered, "Distance, Mr. Yarwood. I'm your secretary, remember? There are too many people around. We can't slip up."
