As soon as those words were spoken, doubt flashed in the others' eyes.
"Are you kidding me? Havenia's stock market isn't something that can be taken down that easily."
"Are you still wasting your time with stocks? Don't you remember that one time when Emstia and Foplya tried to crash Cascadia's gold market? Do you know how much they lost in the end? Cascadians are insane—they don't care about the prices when they think there is money to earn!"
"Shut up!" Charis rubbed his temples. "Yes, that was something Emstia and Foplya tried, but they were idiots. It was doomed to fail from the start, but my plan is already complete!"
Everyone in the video call stirred at his words.
"The plan's complete?"
"Why were we never told?"
"Are you saying Havenia's stock market is already under your control?"
"We only need to wait for the market to open next week." Charis' tone was calm. "MIRXES and ZENTRIX Holdings' prices have been rising steadily. I've been manipulating everything behind the scenes.
"Retail investors are throwing all their money into those two stocks. All it takes is a plunge when the market reopens, and they'll lose everything.
"At that point, your job will be to stir up public sentiment. Make sure to blame the Havenian government for deceiving its own citizens. Once people lose their savings, the outrage will erupt on its own.
"That way, not only will we make a fortune, but Havenia will also fall into chaos. It's a win-win situation."
At that moment, everyone's expressions began to ease.
"It'd be perfect if that's really how it'll go."
"Good idea, Charis! I didn't expect you had a card up your sleeve!"
"If all goes well, we'll soon be able to enter Havenia, too!"
"Cheers! Let's toast to that!"
Charis narrowed his eyes and raised his glass half-heartedly for a toast through the screen, then ended the call.
However, as he stood and walked to the floor-to-ceiling window to admire the view, another call came in.
Charis glanced at the caller ID before his eyes were instantly filled with reverence. "Sir."
"Charis, I'm not satisfied with how you handled those matters. However, if this stock operation goes as you described, it'll make up for your mistakes," the man on the other end said coldly.
"Don't worry, sir. Everything is proceeding as planned. I have not only gained support from key government figures in Havenia, but also brought several powerful families under control."
Despite it being a phone call, Charis' deference was obvious.
"Stay vigilant," the man replied, coughing softly. "You may be in charge of the Chamber of Commerce, but that young lady from the Quinnell family isn't easy to deal with. She'll do everything she can to take it back."
Charis nodded. "I know she's a challenge, but I'm no pushover, either. I won't let her succeed."
"Good." The voice continued, "By the way, how's the progress on the tracks I've asked you to cover?"
Charis' eyes narrowed as he replied, "I haven't located Freddie yet, but I'll keep trying. He has a list of those government officials..."
"Speed up the process." The man's voice dropped. "Those leverage points must be eliminated. Your position won't hold if they're exposed."
Charis replied gravely, "Understood, sir."
The man on the call suddenly added, "Also, send more people to the same location as last time."
Charis' gaze darkened. "Understood. I'll make arrangements immediately."
After hanging up, Charis murmured to himself, "No one will take the Chamber of Commerce from me."
After all, with the chamber's influence, everything was progressing faster.
"You're still as sweet as ever, Ms. Susan," Wynter replied kindly. "But I'll be counting on you to look after my grandma for a bit."
Susan waved her hand. "This is nothing. Also, I'm not 'looking after' her. At our age, it's always nice to have someone to chat and take walks with."
Just then, Wolf's head suddenly popped into the frame. "Hi, Ms. Susan!"
"Oh, my! W-Wolf?!" Susan jumped a little. After all, the memory of him tearing down a stone doll with his bare hands was still fresh in her mind.
"Do you not like me, Ms. Susan?" he asked, pouting.
Susan raised an eyebrow. "You rascal, I do like you, but you scared the life out of me back then."
Wolf grinned. "As long as you like me."
Susan then turned to Margaret. "I heard the vegetables at the market are super fresh today. Let's go check it out together!"
Margaret looked at Wynter, who smiled. "Go ahead, Grandma. Pick out all your favorite things, and don't hold back."
Dalton leaned in slightly, just enough to enter the frame. "Grandma, Wynter's with me, so don't worry."
"Alright, I'm not worried," Margaret replied with a kind smile. "We'll be heading out now."
Wynter gave a quiet hum in acknowledgement before ending the call. Meanwhile, Susan gently supported Margaret as they walked out the door.
With everything settled, Wynter let out a deep breath. All she wanted was for Margaret to be safe, healthy, and at peace.
"You can tell from her smile that she's genuinely happy," Dalton said, turning slightly toward Wynter.
Wynter nodded. "I know. That's why I have to deal with all these troublemakers fast. I want to go home and be with her."
"There's someone out there better at stirring trouble than me?" Wolf muttered as he tilted his head. "Hmm… then I'll outdo them all!"
