The Heiress’ Return: Six Brothers at Her Beck and Call (Wynter Quinnell) novel Chapter 1962

As soon as Oslo finished speaking, the guests all stood up and headed toward the second floor. Wynter and the others moved with the crowd as well.

The second-floor hall was much smaller than the hall on the first floor, but the layout was much more exquisite in comparison.

There was a small auction platform in the middle, surrounded by around 50 chairs. People sat in them one after another based on the names taped to the backs of the chairs.

Antoine pointed toward the left. "Our seats are over there, Ms. Quinnell."

Wynter nodded. "Let's take our seats first."

Once all the guests were seated, Oslo looked down at the card in his hand, then lifted his gaze again.

The lights gradually dimmed, and the auction officially began.

Oslo enthusiastically introduced the purpose of tonight's banquet according to the script in his hand, which was to establish ten charity schools in remote mountainous regions.

The projectors immediately began playing scenes of children from mountainous regions attending elementary school in dilapidated classrooms. Every child was listening intently to their lessons, longing toward the future reflected in their eyes.

Quite a number of guests began to cry upon seeing this.

To ignite the spirit of philanthropy through garnering the audience's pity—that was the organizers' aim.

A while later, after the projectors had finished playing all the footage, Oslo announced, "Let's invite Mr. Boso on stage to share a few words with everyone."

Charis stood up, straightened his clothes, and walked gracefully onto the stage. "Although I'm the head of the Chamber of Commerce, my heart shudders to see these children from mountain villages without enough to eat or keep themselves warm. These sorts of places should not exist within Cascadia.

"I hope that with us leading these efforts, the Cascadian government will also take notice and lend a helping hand as well! Tonight, we'll witness the power of love together! We'll light the beacon of hope for these children from mountain villages, who are so eager for knowledge!

"I'm sure everyone is aware that we've donated all the proceeds from these many charity auctions we've held through the Westmount Charity Foundation.

"Now, I won't keep you any longer, for every second of delay is another second these children suffer. May the charity auction officially begin!"

Immediately afterward, thunderous applause erupted from below the stage. Charis then handed his microphone to Oslo and stepped off the stage alone.

After taking the microphone back, Oslo declared, "Let's now bring out the first auction item—the famous painting 'Spring Rain Amid Mountains and Rivers!' The starting bid is 100 thousand dollars, and the minimum increment is 5 thousand dollars!"

The bidding quickly began.

"120 thousand dollars!"

"150 thousand dollars!"

"200 thousand dollars!"

"230 thousand dollars!"

Wynter noticed that the guests in the front row were frequently raising their bidding paddles. She frowned and glanced at the painting. It was indeed a genuine article, but its market price was no more than 200 thousand dollars.

The bidding price increased more and more until it reached 500 thousand dollars.

"500 thousand dollars going once! 500 thousand dollars going twice! 500 thousand dollars…"

Just as Oslo was about to finalize the bid, someone raised the bid again.

"600 thousand dollars!"

As soon as the bid was called, everyone lowered their heads. Although the painting was quite valuable, and the people present all had more than enough money to spend, it still ached to actually spend all that money.
