According to a saying in the world of traditional medicine, one really only required three needles for acupuncture—the first to assess, the second to bring change, and the third to remedy.
Performing acupuncture with the golden needles was very taxing on Wynter, but she inexplicably felt that it was worth it to see Sadie's gradual recovery.
Just as Sadie was about to pass out from the pain, a strange feeling of coolness rose from her abdominal area. It rushed straight up to her eyes, and she exclaimed, "It feels cold, Wynter. My eyes feel so cold."
Wynter, knowing that the medicine had taken effect, quickly removed all the golden needles and cupped Sadie's face. "Listen to me. Try to open your eyes now."
Upon hearing this, Sadie slowly and shakily opened her eyes. Her gray pupils were still clouded, but a faint light seemed to penetrate the fog of blindness.
"I… think I can see," Sadie said in shock, her voice cracking. "A mass of yellow light… Is it your flashlight?"
Wynter looked at her with smiling eyes. "No. It's the middle of the day, and I don't have any lights on."
Sadie reached out in disbelief, stretching her hand toward that indistinct light. When her fingers made contact with Wynter's face, she was stunned.
In her eyes, Wynter was like a ray of light approaching her. The blurry light seemed to be coming from Wynter.
"I can see a very blurry silhouette, Wynter," Sadie said with tears in her eyes. "I never thought that I would really be able to gradually experience a world of light one day."
Wynter ruffled her hair. "So, don't give up on yourself. Nothing is impossible."
Sadie nodded emphatically. "I'll do as you say, Wynter. From now on, I won't give up anymore. I won't become someone who only wants to escape, either!"
Just then, Dalton brought Elvira back.
Elvira hurriedly walked over, calling out Sadie's name. She was relieved when she found Sadie lying on a bed.
At the sound of Elvira calling out to her, Sadie hurriedly responded, "You're back, Grandma."
Elvira hugged her. "Silly brat. Why did you run off today? I was worried you'd gotten lost."
"I'm alright, Grandma," Sadie said with a smile. "Wynter and her acquaintances sent me back, and… I have some good news!"
Elvira was dazed. "What good news?"
Sadie didn't reply. She simply reached out slowly to touch Elvira's face before saying, "I'll be able to see soon, Grandma."
"Really?" Elvira asked in shock. "Didn't the doctor say it would be very difficult to cure?"
Sadie took Wynter's hand. "It's Wynter who treated me!"
Elvira followed Sadie's gaze to Wynter. She closed in even before she started speaking and was just about to kiss Wynter's hand when the latter stopped her just in time.
"I can't accept such gratitude, ma'am."
"But I must thank you!" Elvira exclaimed, crying tears of joy. "I've constantly been looking for ways to treat Sadie's eye disease, but all the money I've spent has been in vain. And yet, you've managed to cure her.
"You've done us an immense favor. I have nothing to repay you with, so all I can do is express my gratitude in this way!"
Wynter said lightly, "This is just the beginning. It'll be some time before Sadie recovers her eyesight."
Elvira's voice trembled as she said, "As long as there's hope! For such a long time, not one person has told us that she can make a recovery, and I lost hope as well. I didn't think… You're our savior!"
Wynter helped support her. "Sadie needs to rest for a while. How about we leave the room first so as not to disturb her?"
Elvira nodded. "Yes. Have a good rest, Sadie. Tell me if there's anything you want to eat, and I'll make it for you."
Sadie pondered for a moment before saying, "I'll eat anything you make, Grandma."
Upon hearing this, Elvira replied, "Alright. Then, have a rest first, and I'll make something delicious for you later."
Wynter then led her away.
As soon as they left the room, she turned to Wynter. "On the way back just now, this man told me that someone was treating Sadie's eye disease for her. I rushed back because I thought it was a scam."
Wynter sat down on a bench. "She's your granddaughter, after all, so it's normal to worry. I'm indeed treating her, but there really is something I'll have to trouble you with."
Dalton's voice rang out. "She knows. Someone tried to take her life just now, and Wolf saved her."
Hearing this, Wynter looked around for Wolf but didn't see any trace of him. "Where's Wolf?"
Dalton lifted a finger. "He's standing guard at the place where the incident occurred just now. We happened to encounter some people smuggling cultural relics back then and captured them."
Wynter nodded, then addressed Elvira. "He said there were people after your life just now. What's going on?"
Elvira hesitated. "It's a long story."
"It's alright," Wynter said calmly. "I'm willing to listen."
"Alright, then," Elvira said with a sigh. "A long time ago, I happened to overhear a conversation between them as I was taking Sadie out for a walk. It was obvious what their words meant—they were committing illegal acts and smuggling many valuable items overseas through Havenia.
"After I found out, I thought of pretending to be a member of the Havenian police to strike fear into their hearts, then blackmail them. I wanted to cure Sadie's blindness, so I was willing to put my life on the line, no matter how hard or tiring the task would be.
"What happens once will happen twice, and what happens twice will happen thrice. They didn't dare doubt my identity, either. If they really looked into it, they'd suspect me, so I decided to just keep the act going."
Wynter nodded slightly, but she also harbored doubts about Sadie's report. Medical examinations and treatment cost a lot of money, after all, yet Sadie and Elvira had been living in this single-story house.
Elvira sighed deeply. "Yet, when we encountered them just now, I learned that they'd seen through my act and wanted to silence me for good…"
Wynter pondered for a moment, then said, "Regarding your situation… Your motives are good—essentially robbing the rich to help the poor—but you've also violated the law. You have to understand that Cascadia is upheld by the law.
"A single person behaving however they like may seem like a farce in others' eyes, but if a whole group of people started doing the same, their opinions will change."
Elvira lifted her head. "I know I've committed a crime, but I simply don't feel at ease leaving Sadie alone. If I can see her recover her eyesight, then I can die with no regrets."
Wynter turned toward her. "The situation is not quite that extreme. Nobody is perfect. You can stand against them in court as a state witness and provide a truthful account of the situation. I believe that will more or less solve your problem."
Elvira nodded. "Alright, I'll listen to you. Still, I'd like to thank you properly. If not for you, I'm afraid Sadie would have remained depressed for the rest of her life."
"Whether or not Sadie could be cured was up to her," Wynter explained, her eyes narrowing slightly. "If she chose to believe, there was hope for her. But if she chose not to believe, she wouldn't have made the attempt and therefore would not have seen improvement."
She stood up before continuing, "Please take good care of Sadie for now. We'll be leaving for a while. After we return, I'll have to continue performing acupuncture on her."
"Okay," Elvira replied, nodding solemnly. "If you don't mind, please join us for a meal after you're done with your business."
Wynter hummed in acknowledgement before leaving with Dalton to look for Wolf.
Meanwhile, Elvira walked into Sadie's room. "I'm so happy for you, Sadie."

This case could only be investigated in secret. Otherwise, said man would notice the moment the slightest bit of information was leaked.
At that moment, Wynter wondered how Jackson was faring in his attempt to obtain law enforcement rights.
Just as she was thinking this, her phone rang. It was a call from Jackson, and when she answered it, he sighed before she could even say anything.
"I've negotiated with them, Wynter, but I couldn't get you those law enforcement rights."
Wynter replied quietly, "I already figured that would be the case. Havenia runs on a different system of governance despite Cascadia and Havenia being one country. If we were to interfere with Havenia's system, objections would be raised."
"I failed to help you," Jackson said solemnly. "How about this? I'll forego my dignity and negotiate with them again."
Wynter stopped him. "There's no need for that, Mr. Munn Senior. It won't make much of a difference whether or not the negotiation is successful—it'll simply be icing on the cake. However, there's something urgent I need you to secretly look into for me."
"What is it?" Jackson asked, lowering his voice. "If it's inconvenient to discuss it in the open, I'll return to my office."
"Please do. We mustn't let any word of this matter get out," Wynter replied calmly.
Jackson hummed in acknowledgement and hastened his pace. After returning to his office, he locked the door and reported, "You can tell me now, Wynter."
Wynter frowned. "Regarding the cultural relics I told you about last time, I just caught several smugglers transporting them just now. According to them, someone was giving them orders from behind the scenes.
"They've kept fake cultural relics on display in the museums while many genuine relics have been smuggled into Havenia."
"Do you suspect…" Jackson trailed off and lowered his voice. "Do you suspect that someone from Cascadia has turned traitor, and said person occupies a relatively high position?"
"That's right," Wynter said coldly. "I have zero tolerance for treasonous people who side with the enemy."
Jackson tapped his fingers against the desk. "Do you have any clues?"

"In the latter case, he'd be someone who frequently travels abroad and is currently occupying a high position."
"Alright. Leave this to me, Wynter," Jackson told her in a slightly hoarse voice. "I'll drag this ungrateful bastard out of whatever hole he's hiding in myself, and I'll make sure he knows what a terrible mistake he's committed."
After exchanging a few pleasantries, they ended the call.
Just then, Dalton walked over to Wynter. "Do you think he's behind this incident?"
"Do you mean Isidore?" Wynter asked calmly. "All the major incidents that have happened in Cascadia are related to him. We just haven't been able to find evidence of it."
Dalton asked again in a pleasant voice, "What should we do with these people, then?"
Wynter glanced at the men on the ground. "I'll get someone to send them back to the mainland and leave them to Mr. Munn Senior."
"Okay," Dalton said agreeably, then looked at her. "Did you notice that this batch of cultural relics is different from the ones in the warehouse?"
Wynter nodded slightly. "I had a feeling that was the case. The ones in the warehouse felt lifeless, but the ones on this boat feel as if they're brimming with energy. It's very possible that the cultural relics in the warehouse have already been ruined by certain people."
Dalton nodded. "They've lost some of their spiritual and life energy, but the ones on the boat are different."
Suddenly, Wynter glanced to the side, eyeing one of the crates' contents. "That's…"
