The Heiress’ Return: Six Brothers at Her Beck and Call (Wynter Quinnell) novel Chapter 1988

Wynter didn't respond to Dalton's question. She simply turned over and continued to sleep.

Seeing this, Dalton's eyes glinted with amusement. He reached out to pull the blanket over her.

As he looked at her beautiful features, he couldn't resist reaching out to touch her face. It felt like touching the surface of a boiled egg—smooth, elastic, and tempting him to take a bite out of it.

After he was done, he slowly walked out of the room.

Wolf had been playing with Sadie's guide dog ever since he returned, a wide smile on his face. "This dog is really obedient," he said happily.

Wherever he went, the guide dog would follow. He occasionally stopped to feed it some food, after which it continued to follow him around.

Seeing this, Dalton's eyes deepened in thought.

Wolf had arrived in Havenia before him and Wynter, and he'd also learned to speak here.

Dalton was aware of the reason for that—although people had taught him the language, the most important thing was that his slumbering beast consciousness was gradually awakening.

Those who'd previously been beasts of chaos knew that once they were reincarnated as humans, their previous consciousness would be sealed away.

Their human side would take the reins, but as time went by, their sealed consciousness would also gradually break free. For example, they would gradually relearn speech or recall the things they'd done before.

When that time came, Wolf would very likely no longer be "Wolf" but regress into Chaos.

Wolf ran over to Dalton's side. "Let's play together, Mr. Leprechaun! This dog is just too cute!"

Dalton replied aloofly, "You go ahead, but don't make too much noise. Wynter's sleeping in Sadie's room."

"Oh, okay." Wolf nodded, and his cheerful voice gradually quietened down.

As Dalton watched the innocent Wolf, he couldn't help but shake his head. Once Wolf awakened, this side of him would be nowhere to be seen.

Chaos had always been by Dalton's side. After he fell into a deep sleep, Chaos had also been reincarnated as a human. If the latter were to awaken, he would return to his previous appearance.

As Dalton thought of this, he looked toward Wynter, who was lying on the bed, through the open door.

"Will you be upset if Wolf disappears?" he murmured.

Dalton was aware of many things, and he always insisted that heaven's will could not be defied. Yet, Wynter's presence seemed to have changed many things.

He lifted his head and looked toward the mainland, right in the direction of Mt. Etna—a forbidden area of sorts.

Nobody knew when Wolf would awaken. That would depend entirely on himself.

If they wanted to suppress Wolf's beast consciousness, they would have no choice but to take him to Mt. Etna and strengthen the seal.

At that moment, Wolf was standing in front of him, staring unblinkingly at him with his head tilted. "What's going through your mind, Mr. Leprechaun? Your brows are all furrowed up like an old man!"

Dalton looked away. "Has anybody told you that you talk a lot nowadays? I much prefer the previous version of you who couldn't speak. Previously, I could at least use money to send you away, but now I have to use my words, too."

Wolf snickered and made a face at him. "Nobody's told me that. It's fine as long as Boss likes me, though. Everyone else is unimportant!"

Dalton lowered his gaze. "Do you like me?"

Wolf shook his head. "If not for the fact that Boss likes you, I wouldn't ever get close to you. I've always had the feeling that you're very dangerous!"

He even enunciated the last few words one by one for emphasis.

Dalton chuckled and echoed, "I'm very dangerous, you say?"

Sadie nodded. "Okay. I'll tell Grandma."

Dalton watched her slowly shuffle away with an indifferent expression in his eyes. "I didn't expect Wynter to be able to cure an eye disease that's afflicted someone for so many years as well."

"But of course," Wolf said proudly, as if he'd been the one to achieve such a feat. "Boss is the greatest! There's nothing she can't do, except…"

Hearing this, Dalton glanced at Wolf out of the corner of his eyes. "Except what?"

"Boss once said that even heroes fall captive to beauties," muttered Wolf. "And she ended up falling for you."

Dalton chuckled, his handsome face exuding a cold beauty. "That's not a bad metaphor. Show me your bank account number again. I'll give you a reward."

Wolf hurriedly presented his bank account number to Dalton at that, as if afraid that the latter would regret his words if he were a second slower.

After receiving the money in his account, Wolf looked at him and added, "It's only when you're giving me money that you're not dangerous at all."

At that moment, a crow was hovering in the sky and cawing from time to time.

Upon hearing its caws, Dalton looked up and recognized the crow immediately. He hadn't seen it for a long time.

Wolf looked over as well and exclaimed, "Wow! What a huge bird! It must have a lot of meat on its bones! Help me, Mr. Leprechaun! Let's catch it together!"

Before he could move, Dalton reached out and pulled him back.

"Don't go around eating just anything," Dalton admonished in a low voice. "Go and help that young lady."

"I'm not going," Wolf said petulantly, shaking his head. "I want to catch the crow, roast it, and eat it!"

Dalton replied unhurriedly, "If you don't go, I'll tell Wynter that you have a secret stash of money hidden away once she wakes up."
