The Heiress’ Return: Six Brothers at Her Beck and Call (Wynter Quinnell) novel Chapter 2000

Reese fell silent for a moment.

"Are you certain? It could cause serious consequences and stir up a great deal of speculation if it were a mistake from your side," he said firmly.

"Of course." Wynter lifted her brows slightly. "But what I just told you was only the beginning. There is someone else, or perhaps an organization, behind Aidan. He's merely a pawn."

Reese's voice turned cold. "There's someone behind Aidan? I'm very curious. How could you already have solid evidence when even the Public Integrity Department hasn't found any leads so far? Does that mean you've been investigating since the moment you set foot in Havenia?"

"Yes, and no." Wynter's answer was deliberately ambiguous. "Many of the recent incidents in Havenia are schemes manipulated by people. If you connect all of them, you'll realize the masterminds are foreign forces."

The weight of that information made Reese sink into thought.

If what Wynter said was true, why had Havenia shown no reaction? So far, they had merely treated these cases as small, isolated incidents.

Wynter continued, "Let me put it plainly. The gambling websites, missing persons, organ trafficking, and stock market turmoil are all organized by the same foreign forces.

"Their goal is to plunge Havenia into chaos, then shift the blame onto the mainland. By using this trick, they plan to incite Havenia's resentment against the mainland. In the end, they'll swoop in to take control, turning Havenia into a pawn within their grasp."

"I didn't expect so much to happen while I was away from Havenia." Reese's voice was solemn. "I've seen what you're capable of. Tell me how I can assist you."

"I want command authority." Wynter's eyes shimmered with a hint of rouge. She was beautiful and alluring.

Reese paused before continuing, "I can grant you partial command authority, but you'll need to tell me what exactly you intend to do next."

Wynter's gaze was calm. "I need to host a banquet under your name."

"A banquet? Isn't it rather inappropriate to hold one at a moment like this?" Reese sounded confused.

"It would be their last supper." Wynter's smile was faint. "I will expose the one hiding deepest in the shadows at this banquet."

"Very well. I'll agree to that, " Reese said.

Then, seemingly remembering something, he continued, "And Aidan? Are you planning to use him as bait to reel in a bigger catch?"

Wynter nodded lightly. "That's exactly what I was thinking. However, I'll need you to lend me a group of men. They must be people who can be trusted."

"Alright. Send me an address, and I'll dispatch a team of specially trained personnel to meet you now. This matter is yours to handle. What I want to see is a flawless outcome." Reese's tone softened.

Wynter hummed in agreement before continuing, "I'll send you the address and a list of names. Please make sure those people receive invitations to the banquet."

After hanging up the phone, she sent over the address along with the list. Once that was done, Wynter rested her chin in one hand as she thought about who Leviathan could be.

She had a feeling they had a strong connection to the customs. After all, someone who could make Aidan obey so unquestioningly was very likely his superior.

However, the rankings in the customs office were complicated. There were the department head, their deputies, and several other positions, which were all Aidan's superiors.

Wynter's main focus at the banquet would be keeping a close eye on the group of officers from customs.

For now, everything seemed to be connected with cultural relics. The situation could only truly be resolved when Jackson found the mastermind on the mainland.

"Boss, there are a lot of people at the door." Wolf came running in quickly. "Are they here to bully us? Do you want me to beat them up?"

Wynter glanced back. "They've come rather quickly."

"Huh? What do you mean by that?" Wolf scratched his head. "The bad guys are blocking our front door."

Wynter chuckled. "Those are not bad guys. They're the helpers I called over. Come on, let's go take a look."

Taking Wolf with her, Wynter walked outside. The group at the entrance stood in perfect formation.

When they saw Wynter emerge, the man in the lead spoke up. "Ms. Quinnell, Mr. Grier sent us to assist you. Just give the order if you need anything."

Wynter's eyes swept over them. Each one carried a sharp, battle-hardened presence.

"Not bad. From here on, split into two squads. One squad will keep Aidan Patsy, Customs Enforcement's director, under secret 24-hour surveillance. The other squad will infiltrate the port. Report back to me immediately if anything happens."

"Yes, madam!" the group responded in unison.

"Divide the personnel among yourselves. However, I expect results that satisfy me. Otherwise…" Wynter's gaze remained cool.

Everyone nodded firmly. "We promise to complete the mission!"

Even as they spoke, the men had already arranged themselves into two teams and headed off in different directions.

Watching their figures disappear, Wynter's lips curved slightly. "I have people to use now."

"Wow!" Wolf stood beside her as he cheered. "Boss, you were so imposing just now. The last time I saw that… was the last time!"

"You're getting more fluent in nonsense," Wynter teased.

Then, remembering that she did not see Dalton when she came out, she asked, "Where did Mr. Leprechaun go?"

"Uh, I think he said he was checking out the restaurant." Wolf tilted his head.

Wynter nodded slightly. She had been too busy just now and had forgotten. She pulled out her phone and sent him a message, asking where he was.

Soon, Dalton replied with an address. Seeing that, Wynter immediately grabbed Wolf and headed in the restaurant's direction.

Meanwhile, a heated conversation was brewing in the Patsy residence.

Aidan's eyes bore straight into Riley. "What did you do while I wasn't home?"

"I didn't do anything. Is it a crime to turn off the surveillance?" Riley turned slightly to the side.

"That's not the issue here." Aidan's gaze sharpened. "You just had to turn off the one in my study, too. I remember that I told you that you are never to touch anything in my study, including the surveillance."

Riley's chest tightened. "Aidan, I am your wife. Do you really value your study more than me?"

"Are you trying to change the subject?" Aidan asked before suddenly letting out a laugh. "The guard from the security booth is standing outside our front door right now. I'll give you one last chance—tell me who came into the house today. Miss this chance, and don't blame me for what happens next."

At his words, Riley froze. When she had brought Wynter in earlier, Wynter had hidden away. Although the guard had leaned closer to look, surely, he hadn't seen anything, right?

"I don't know what you're talking about." Riley's gaze was firm. "I was home alone today. Are you accusing me of cheating? Then call the guard in here to confirm it!"

Aidan had found no traces that anything in his study had been disturbed, not even the notebook he had intentionally left inside the safe.

If anything happened to him, the people behind him would have to make sure he was saved. After all, if the ship went down, they would all be dragged under with him.

"Describe everything you saw, right in front of her. If you say even one false word, you won't be working here again." Aidan stared at the guard.
