The Heiress’ Return: Six Brothers at Her Beck and Call (Wynter Quinnell) novel Chapter 2001

Just then, Wynter's phone rang. It was a call from Riley. "Ms. Quinnell, Aidan just came home. He suspected I brought someone in and even tested me using the guard at the gate. He's suspicious of me."

Wynter narrowed her eyes. "Suspicion comes from distrust. It's good you weren't exposed."

"What should I do next?" Riley's voice was tense and anxious. "I don't know how to face him. I'm reminded of my dad's car accident whenever I see him. I want to kill him with my own hands."

At that, Wynter said slowly and calmly, "Calm down. The moment you act on such thoughts, you'll be guilty of a crime. It's not worth rotting away in prison for that scum."

She paused before continuing, "I already have a way to deal with him. You just need to act as if nothing ever happened for now."

Riley let out a heavy sigh. "Alright, I'll listen to you."

"Bear with it a little longer," Wynter comforted. "I suspect your father's incident wasn't just Aidan's doing. It's also tied to the people backing him. Leave it to me. I'll expose all of them and get justice for your father."

Riley nodded slightly. "Alright. I'm outside now. Can I come meet you?"

"No." Wynter's gaze remained cold. "It's highly likely he has someone tailing you. The moment you meet with or talk to someone, Aidan will be informed immediately. Just wander around, shop, or do whatever."

"Alright, then. I'll go for a walk to clear my head," Riley said as she took a deep breath.

Wynter let out a hum. "Alright, how about this? Wait for me at the usual cafe."

The call ended, and Delmar's voice rang out. "Mrs. Yarwood, the food will get cold if you don't eat soon."

Dalton added with a faint smile, "Mr. Delmar is right. You shouldn't waste such a feast, no matter how much you need to handle."

"Okay," Wynter answered.

She picked up her utensil and reached for the bacon, only to find the plate empty. Then, she turned to Wolf and saw grease still glistening on his lips.

"What's wrong, Boss? Do I have something on my face?" Wolf asked as he turned his gaze toward her and widened his eyes curiously.

Wynter lifted her chin slightly. "Eat a little slower next time."

After the meal, Delmar cleared the table before sitting down. "Congratulations on reclaiming the Chamber of Commerce, Mrs. Yarwood. I'll toast you with tea instead of wine."

At his words, Wynter lifted her teacup. "I couldn't have gotten it back so quickly without your help, Mr. Delmer."

Delmar downed his cup before smiling. "It's your talent that made it work. I truly admire you."

His eyes then shifted toward Dalton. "It's rare for women to succeed in today's world. Many still believe women belong only at home and should focus on raising children. But I see something different in you, Mrs. Yarwood."

He paused before continuing, "There are many who are interested in Mr. Yarwood, but most are only after the Yarwood family, not him. That's why he's never been close with any woman except you."

Dalton smiled faintly. "Mr. Delmar, are you drunk from the tea?"

Wynter's gaze was calm and steady. "I simply want to break those traditions. Who says women are inferior to men?"

In earlier times, things were even worse. In fact, women couldn't even appear in public without being met with gossip and scorn.

Delmar's expression froze for a moment. "These wise words alone are enough for me to be there whenever you need help!"

Wynter refilled both their teacups. "Mr. Delmar, you're family, not a maid."

"Mrs. Yarwood…" Delmar lifted his gaze to her, but didn't finish his words. The word "family" had completely won him over.

Wynter raised her cup. "Let's toast again. There's no need for words."

Dalton smiled faintly and shook his head, as if he could see right through Wynter's thoughts.

"Mr. Delmar, I just remembered that I need a favor from you, after all." Wynter set down her teacup at that moment, her bright eyes turning to him.

Delmar's voice was steady. "Just say the word, Mrs. Yarwood. I'll see it through as long as it's something I'm capable of."

"It's actually quite a troublesome matter." Wynter looked up before continuing, "Mr. Delmar, would you like to earn money?"

Delmar's fingers froze. "Earn money? Of course I do. Who would complain about having too much?"

"Then it'll be easy." Wynter lifted her chin. "I need you to go overseas and earn dollans."

"Dollans? But overseas business isn't that easy to manage…" Delmar said, looking puzzled. "Also, anti-Cascadian sentiment abroad is still common. It's more complicated than you think, Mrs. Yarwood."

Wynter chuckled softly. "Don't worry. I'll make all the arrangements for you. What I value is your fluency in four languages. You don't need to bring anything with you but yourself. All the money you make there will be yours."

Delmar froze for a moment. "Mrs. Yarwood, are you trying to lay the groundwork over there?"

"You're right." Wynter's lips curled. "But the groundwork is already set. I just need you to oversee it in person."

Delmar was silent for a moment. "If that's what you want, I can leave anytime."

"That would be for the best. Your ticket is already booked. The flight's tomorrow," Wynter informed.

She poured another cup of tea as she added, "Take care of yourself when you're there. Feel free to contact me if something comes up."

Delmar nodded. "Alright."

Then, he looked toward Dalton. "Mr. Yarwood, I'll follow Mrs. Yarwood's lead and head overseas."

Dalton replied calmly, "Alright. Take care of yourself. If anything happens, you can contact either of us."

Delmar rose to his feet. "Then, I'll head back to pack my bags. Mr. and Mrs. Yarwood, feel free to stay a while longer. I'll take my leave first."

The two of them nodded, watching him depart.

"You're good at hiding things." Dalton looked at Wynter, amusement in his eyes.

Wynter lifted her gaze. "I didn't actually think this far when I met him previously. It only came to me recently. It just so happens his language skills can be put to use."

"I know." Dalton took a sip of tea. "Mr. Delmar is capable. Keeping him in Havenia forever would be a waste, but sending him overseas will allow him to utilize his strength. That way, his talent won't go unnoticed."

Wynter's eyes curved faintly at the corners. "Naturally. Mr. Delamr's role there is simply to hold the fort. As for what needs to be developed, he'll understand once he gets there."

Wynter detested those who lurked in the shadows. The overseas powers thought that hiding meant that they would be untouched. However, in reality, she had been watching them for a long time. If it weren't inconvenient for her to leave Cascadia now, she would have gone to meet them herself.

Sending Delmar was the best choice. Not only could he communicate freely in multiple languages, but he could also turn their own tricks against them. The schemes they had planned to stir up in Cascadia would backfire on them.

"Good." Dalton raised his eyes. "When do you plan to close the net for those in customs?"

Wynter lifted her brows slightly. "The net closes the moment Aidan makes his move."

Just as her words rang out, Wynter's phone buzzed with a message.

"Ms. Quinnell, someone just arrived at the docks driving Aidan's car." It was a message from one of the men Resse had assigned to her.

Wynter's lips curved into a smile. "Speak of the devil."

Then, she typed back a reply. "Keep an eye on him. Arrest him on the spot if you see him moving cargo or anything suspicious."
