The Heiress’ Return: Six Brothers at Her Beck and Call (Wynter Quinnell) novel Chapter 2032

Wynter's voice was calm and faint. "Do you have people in Meprida?"

"Of course. That's my home," Krugen said with pride evident in his gaze. "I can't say much about other places, but when it comes to Meprida, no one knows it better than me."

Wynter gave a faint smile. "Find a place suitable for a proper talk."

Krugen tilted his head. "My goddess, that's not the attitude you had just now. Are you also after whatever those researchers are holding?"

With a lazy lift of her brow, Wynter replied, "The specifics involve some confidential information. Let's find a place to talk first."

"Alright, then. Get in the car. If you're getting in the back, you can only stand," Krugen said as he hopped into the passenger seat, looking back at them. "It's a convertible pickup, so there's lots of space. Don't be shy and quickly hop in. I'll take you to a cafe nearby."

The truck bed at the back was indeed spacious, but they could only stand. Otherwise, they would be tossed around once the car moved.

Wynter lifted her right foot and climbed in, then reached out to pull Dalton and Wolf up with her. "Hold on tight to the front rail, and don't get thrown out."

It was their first time riding in such a pickup. As the vehicle moved along the road, they leaned to one side, especially when it turned. If it weren't for Krugen having some valuable information, they wouldn't have gone with him.

After a while, the vehicle finally stopped.

Krugen hopped down with a grin on his face. "Well? Isn't the convertible pickup the coolest? Most people will never get to experience the scenery along the way."

Wynter straightened her posture. "You'd better stop running your mouth, or I might not be able to resist sealing it shut with duct tape."

Krugen pouted. "You still have the same temper, but it suits my taste."

Once Wynter and the others got down, Krugen headed into the cafe first. The place was decorated in a retro style, with both a main hall and private rooms.

Krugen asked the server for a private room and led Wynter and her group inside.

"You all—"

Krugen had just sat down and was about to speak when Wynter cut him off directly, "Keep it short. Which armed faction in Meprida is holding them?"

Krugen looked at her. "There's no need to rush. Have a drink, and I'll tell you slowly."

He handed the drink over, but seeing that Wynter didn't touch it, he sighed. "Alright, then, I'll tell you. It's the largest armed faction in Meprida. Their manpower and weaponry are so massive that even the government fears them.

"Their organization's name is Shadowless. They've existed for a long time. Rumor has it that they have someone backing them…"

Only then did Wynter take a sip of her drink. "There must be backing. Otherwise, the government would've wiped them out long ago if it were just an armed group. The only reason they hesitate and dare not make a move is because they know exactly who's behind them."

Krugen rubbed his head. "Now that you put it that way, it does seem to be that case. That's why, whether it's the researchers or what they're carrying you want, it's impossible to get them. No one dares to go head-on with them in Meprida."

Wynter raised her gaze to look at him. "You said you're very familiar with Meprida. But you wouldn't know this much if you were just an ordinary citizen, would you?"

Ever since Krugen started speaking, Wynter felt that Krugen's identity wasn't that of an ordinary civilian. After all, in a place like Meprida, armed factions were the last thing civilians wanted to be involved with—conflict could erupt at any moment, and no one wanted to see that.

Krugen's eyes darkened. "Sorry, I can't tell you my identity. Just think of me as an ordinary person. I only hope to repay the debt I owe you. I don't want to owe anyone anything."

Wynter seemed to have seen through something. Her lips curved slightly. "I won't ask for your identity, but I do need to know if you're connected to the Shadowless faction."

Krugen shook his head. "No. I wouldn't have told you so much about Shadowless if I were one of them."

Wynter tapped her fingertips on the table. "That's enough."

"You're not actually planning to go to Meprida, are you?" Krugen turned slightly toward her.

She answered evenly, "What else would I do? I came precisely for what they're holding."

Hearing that, Krugen frowned. "Shadowless is not to be trifled with. More than that, Meprida is their turf. You'll only be throwing your life away if you go."

Wynter's gaze was deep as she replied, "I have my own plans."

She couldn't tell Krugen her true purpose. After all, this was a top-secret mission, and it was better if fewer people knew about it.

Krugen gritted his teeth. "If that's the case, I'll go with you. If I survive, I'll consider my life debt repaid."

Wynter almost choked on her drink. "You'll come with us? You'd better stay here. I can't guarantee I'll save you a second time if things spiral out of control."

Krugen laughed softly. "Fair enough. Then, I'll just wish you victory and a safe return."

Wynter glanced at the time. "We've got other matters to attend to, so we'll have to leave now."

Krugen stood, ready to see them off. "Alright. There's already a car waiting for you outside."

"Don't tell me it's another pickup." Wynter cast him a sidelong glance.

Krugen smiled. "Of course not. Pickups are for me. I've arranged a proper car for you, with a driver, too. Rest assured, I handle things well."

Wynter gave a small nod. After exchanging farewells, she left with Dalton and Wolf, getting into the car and driving away.

As Krugen watched the vehicle disappear into the distance, his smile slowly faded. In a low murmur, he said, "I'll repay this life debt. See you in Meprida."

He figured that Wynter and her group must be heading for the airport after leaving.

Just as he expected, Wynter told the driver to head to the airport once she got into the car. They had already wasted enough time here, and they could only hurry and head straight for Meprida.

Originally, she had planned to stop by the night market to buy some intel on Meprida, but there was no need for that step since they had run into Krugen and gotten the information, anyway.

As soon as they reached the airport, Wynter's phone rang. It was a call from Jackson.

Jackson's voice carried a hint of relief. "Wynter, you handled the matter in Southeast Ibira very well. Not only did you get those victims safely to the embassy, but you also exposed a man pretending to be the police chief."

Wynter's lips curved faintly. "It's just a small matter. Things here got delayed a bit. I'm at the airport now, preparing to head to Meprida."

Jackson's tone grew more serious. "Your safety should be above all else. Also, we've received intel that it was the Shadowless faction who kidnapped the researchers. Their goal is the research data that those people were carrying."

"I just heard the same from someone else," Wynter replied evenly. "That's why I plan to head over and investigate quietly first."

"Shadowless is the number one armed force in Meprida. Don't underestimate them," Jackson warned. "Also, after verifying, we confirmed that the intel came from an undercover agent that our intelligence department planted. He's the one who passed us the message."

At that, Wynter's eyes brightened slightly. With an insider, their chances of success would be much higher.

Jackson continued, "When you arrive in Meprida, go to Sedros later tonight. The informant will meet you there."

"Alright. By the way, Mr. Munn Senior, have you dug that person out yet?"
