**Chapter 359: Where’s She?**
Amelia had always been guarded about her reality, never once revealing the full extent of her life to Jeremy. She held back the truth that she was not just any employee but a core member and special consultant at PharmaCore 01. To her, sharing such information felt akin to flaunting trophies, a boastful act that could easily alienate her from those she cared about.
Moreover, the details of her position were shrouded in secrecy, a confidentiality she was bound to uphold. It was not something one could casually drop into conversation without considering the implications.
Jeremy, however, was perceptive. His keen instincts picked up on the nuances of her speech, the way she carried herself, and he sensed that there were connections she wasn’t willing to disclose.
“That’s incredible! You should definitely meet my mom sometime. I think you two would hit it off,” he suggested, his enthusiasm palpable.
Amelia scoffed lightly, a hint of annoyance creeping into her voice. “Hmph, forget it. That’s really not a good idea. You’d be better off introducing her to Ms. Jordan instead.”
Their conversation had flowed effortlessly until, in a sudden shift, Amelia’s demeanor changed. A cold snort escaped her lips, and her expression turned blank, as if a curtain had fallen over her emotions. In a swift motion, she pushed the door open and stepped out, the sound of it slamming shut resonating in the air, leaving Jeremy momentarily stunned.
“Wow, her jealousy is intense,” he muttered under his breath, feeling a mix of confusion and helplessness. She often insisted that jealousy was not her issue, yet it was clear that she was struggling with the reality of his past engagement.
He knew he had to confront Bridget, to put an end to whatever chaos she might be brewing. What if she decided to involve Sabrina again or, worse, orchestrate another engagement? The thought of having to win Amelia back from such a situation felt daunting, almost like navigating a minefield.
Outside, Amelia wrestled with her emotions, a wave of regret crashing over her. Had she really acted so immaturely? The realization that she had let her feelings get the better of her stung deeply. She had always prided herself on being composed, yet with Jeremy, everything felt different.
The moments of losing her temper in front of him replayed in her mind like a broken record, each instance a reminder of how vulnerable he made her feel. She had even developed a knack for sulking without realizing it, a behavior that felt uncharacteristic and entirely out of line for her.
After a brief period of brooding, Amelia shook off the heaviness that threatened to pull her under. She had plans to meet Josie for lunch, a rendezvous she had already postponed a few times. If she delayed it again, she could imagine Josie’s disappointment, perhaps even tears.
It might have seemed extreme, but in her mind, it was better to be proactive than to regret inaction later.
Tyler responded promptly, his tone professional. “I’m on it.” His fingers danced over the keyboard, lines of code flashing across the screen as he navigated the complex layers of security like a seasoned hacker.
Meanwhile, Amelia stepped out of the restaurant, the familiar block filled with eateries and dessert shops that Josie frequented. She wandered the nearby streets, her eyes scanning the crowd for any sign of her friend.
Suddenly, a thought struck her—Josie had a particular fondness for that upscale cake shop just around the corner. Perhaps she had stopped there. With renewed hope, Amelia made her way to the shop, hoping to either find Josie or gather some information from the staff.
But as she arrived, her search yielded nothing. The shop was bustling, but Josie was nowhere to be found, and no one had any leads to offer.
Just then, her phone vibrated vigorously in her pocket, pulling her from her thoughts. She pulled it out, her heart leaping as she saw a message from Josie!
