Maxwell let out a cold snort and walked proudly toward the auction seating area.
It wasn’t the seat in the center, but it still had one of the best views in the hall.
“Oh my, Mrs. Curran, who is this with you? She’s so pretty.”
“Judging by how fond you are of her, she must be your future daughter-in-law, right?”
“What a stunning family. Everyone looks so elegant and well put together.”
As soon as Whitney appeared, those eager to build connections rushed to flatter her.
Some of them didn’t even know who Amelia was, but they could guess her status easily, especially after seeing how warmly Whitney treated her.
Whitney wasn’t just a key figure at PharmaCore 01. She was also the mother of Jeremy, the man in charge of the Curran empire.
On top of that, the Schmidts were a well-known and respected family in Brookhaven, famous for their academic and professional background.
So naturally, everyone wanted to please her. If they couldn’t get close to the Currans, maybe the Schmidts or even PharmaCore 01 would be a good place to start.
“Hehe, that’s right. My son treasures Amelia so much. He insisted I bring her along today,” Whitney said with a smile.
“He even told me that whatever she likes, she should just bid for it. No need to hesitate. I get to splurge today thanks to Amelia too. Haha.”
It was obvious that Whitney was in a great mood. In the past, she would have brushed off this kind of flattery with a calm, distant smile.
But today was different. This was about her future daughter-in-law. And hearing everyone praise Amelia’s looks made her genuinely happy.
For once, the flattery hit the right spot.
Not far away, Gianna had been secretly watching the scene unfold. She heard every word those people said.
When she saw Amelia surrounded by praise, treated like the center of attention, just like she once had been, it made her chest tighten.
Sure, Gianna believed she still outshone many women. But losing to Amelia? That made her feel deeply unbalanced.
She believed there was no way to deal with that bitch.
Just wait.
Once the auction officially began, the seats below quickly filled up.

Chapter 488 Eyes on the Prize
The host stepped onto the stage, warmed up the crowd, and briefly explained the rules.
Then the auction started.
A glamorous assistant wheeled out the first item. It was a beautifully crafted antique vase, with a unique shape and delicate patterns.
The host began explaining its history and value. People in the audience leaned toward one another, whispering softly.
This item was probably better suited for middle-aged collectors or people who liked fine art.
Most of the younger guests weren’t very interested.
Gianna sat in her seat, but her eyes kept drifting toward Amelia.
She wanted to see what Amelia would bid on.
Whatever she likes, Gianna decided, she would fight her for it.
After all, it wasn’t her money on the line-it was Maxwell’s. Why should she feel bad at all?
Over the next few auction items, she noticed Amelia looked mostly uninterested.
Amelia was chatting with Whitney at the time. She had never really liked auctions anyway.
If she truly liked something, she could just buy a similar piece elsewhere.
Why make such a big show of buying originals or old historical items?
Of course, she knew some collectors genuinely loved antiques and rare pieces. That was just their thing.
Just then, a glamorous woman rolled out a vintage chiffon dress.
At first glance, it looked light, flowing, and full of texture. The cut was unique, clearly marking it as a handmade piece.
Amelia’s eyes lit up. When the host announced a starting price of 300,000 dollars, Amelia raised her paddle. “400,000.”
“I bid 500,000!” Gianna shot back at once.
She had to admit, Amelia had good taste. The dress was beautiful and clearly a one-of-a-kind piece in the
world.
Spending a fortune on a dress would usually hurt. But if it meant taking something Amelia liked, Gianna
felt satisfied.
Besides, it wasn’t her money.
“600,000,” Amelia said calmly.
“800,000!” Gianna followed closely, boldly jumping the price.

This time, Amelia pressed her lips together and stayed silent.
In the end, Gianna got the dress she wanted.

After that, the same thing happened with several pieces of jewelry and perfume. Every time Amelia placed a bid, Gianna followed right after and won them all.
Once again, she turned to Amelia with a smug look.
The feeling of finally beating her, even just once, felt incredibly satisfying.
“Amelia,” someone said. “Why didn’t you keep bidding? If you liked it, you could’ve just raised the price until the other person backed off.”

The readers' comments on the novel: The Heiress They Couldn't Break (Amelia and Jeremy)
I'm starting not to like Josie's character. If any man did all the things she's doing, they'd be considered creepy. This version of Josie is giving me the ick....
Does the novel ends in chapter 716 or is it still ongoing?...
Absolutely beautiful!...
Oh my! I really like Whitney (Jeremy's mum). She's so down to earth. She didn't even acknowledge Sabrina's presence....
I don't know what's with this new writer, but they are only making things worse. Gianna does in fact know how to ride a horse. She's had lessons and she even had a race with Amelia where she threw nails on the track to cheat. Gianna fell in the mud and was embarrassed when they pulled the cameras at a riding club owned by Jeremy....
Why did Cloudspire Estate change from a house to an apartment? Why is the writer acting like Jeremy does not own the property and he is not the one that allowed Amelia stay there? I hate when the writer does not remember what they wrote....
This is chapter 51 again when it should be chapter 52. Please fix for future readers....
New chapters please. If Amelia doesn’t end up with Jeremy I’m going to cry...
New chapters please....
