After quietly leveraging her connections to investigate, Nydia snuck back to the villa where Paul and his wife used to live and searched it in secret.

That was when she found her real niece, Sabrina.

The child had been kept in a hidden basement in that villa all these years, living in a place that never saw daylight for so long.

Every time Nydia thought about it, she couldn’t stop herself from crying.

Thankfully, she’d always been close to Paul’s family and used to visit often.

That was how she managed to piece together enough subtle clues to uncover the hidden room.

She remembered one visit in particular, when she’d noticed the soil beneath the old locust tree in the backyard seemed looser than the rest.

At the time, she’d assumed the gardener had simply turned the dirt and hadn’t thought much of it.

years-once,

And there was that landscape painting in Paul’s study that had hung there for while dusting it, she’d felt something slightly off about the frame’s edge, but she’d chalked it up to normal wear and tear.

The real Sabrina had always been afraid of the dark and never dared sleep with the lights off.

But this “Sabrina” often stayed alone in pitch-black rooms for long stretches of time.

The real Sabrina was allergic to milk; every time she drank it, she’d end up vomiting and with an upset stomach.

Yet this “Sabrina” regularly drank milk and ate all kinds of delicate cheesecake.

When asked about it, she had calmly claimed that as she grew older, her immune system had improved, and she simply wasn’t allergic anymore.

All those little “quirks” Nydia had once overlooked now were linked together into ironclad proof pointing straight to the truth.

The girl she had poured her love into for years had been nothing more than a stranger who’d stolen someone else’s place.

And her real niece had been suffering unimaginable torment in a lightless basement.

The thought alone made Nydia’s chest ache unbearably.

The one who suffered just as much was Cora.

When she learned the truth-when she saw her real granddaughter, pale from never seeing the sun and so thin she looked like she might snap-she broke down completely and cried until she fainted.

“I can’t believe this. You’re fake? How dare you impersonate my real cousin! How could you even think of doing something like that?!”

Brielle was another who couldn’t accept it.

After that incident when she’d caught a glimpse of her “cousin’s” hypocrisy, she’d already been struggling to process it.

She’d spent so long trying to find a reasonable excuse to clear Sabrina’s name.

She had done so much mental gymnastics, trying to numb herself and convince herself that Sabrina wasn’t actually a bad person.

But before she could even find a decent reason to defend her, Nydia had exposed this Sabrina as a complete imposter.

It felt like the sky was collapsing.

Especially after seeing the real Sabrina-and hearing the things she’d said to her.

Only then did Brielle finally realize she had truly been manipulated and toyed with by that damned imposter all this time.

Comparison makes all the difference.

Now that she had something to compare, Brielle knew instantly which one was the real Sabrina.

It all made sense now.

No wonder every time she brought up funny stories from their childhood, that “Sabrina” couldn’t answer and always claimed she didn’t remember much from back then.

At the time, Brielle had even resented “her” for not valuing their shared memories.

It turned out, it wasn’t that she didn’t care-she hadn’t even been there!

Thinking about it, Brielle stormed over and slapped the imposter twice.

“You disgusting woman! You lied to me, played me for a fool, and treated me like an idiot! You

deserve to rot!”

“N-No, it’s not like that, I-I…”

Caught red-handed and surrounded on all sides, Sabrina had nowhere to run and no real defense to offer.

She was trapped there, completely at everyone’s mercy.

She turned to Esmond, hoping he would at least plead on her behalf or find some way to settle this peacefully.

But to her shock, Esmond distanced himself immediately, standing tall in his role as head of the family and condemning her.

“This is outrageous. For something like this to happen is absolutely appalling.”

“Exactly, it’s disgusting!” Brielle chimed in. “Dad, hurry up and beat her up, then lock her in that basement for over a decade so she can experience what it’s like!”

“No, Brielle. We can’t do anything illegal.”

Nydia shook her head and suggested to Esmond, “Let’s send her to the police station and tell them everything. Let the law handle it.

“And the herbal formula she gave me to regulate my health was deliberate too. She was trying to harm me. If Amelia hadn’t been there, I wouldn’t have even realized.”

Her meaning was obvious-add another charge and make sure this woman rotted in prison.

At the mention of Amelia’s name, both Sabrina and Esmond’s eyes flickered with the same flash of resentment.

They both despised Nydia as well.

If that woman hadn’t stuck her nose in, none of this would’ve blown up so fast.

Losing a pawn they’d carefully cultivated for years hurt-but they couldn’t risk exposing themselves because of it,

With that in mind, Esmond nodded decisively. “You’re right. Let the police handle it.”

“No, please don’t! I won’t do it again! Just give me one more chance!”
