BRANDON’S POV

I didn’t need to stay in the city any longer. A part of me wished I could see my mother but there was no need. I wasn’t ready for another speech on how to treat her husband and her new family.
She never even cared if I was comfortable or not, just left me alone with my emotions to deal with it like I wasn’t her child.
On the way back to the city, I opened my work mail again because I had no choice. Everything was falling apart at the same time.
There were dozens of reports, a million complaints and financial inconsistencies. My company was not stable right now, and I did not even have the mental space to fix it properly.
I leaned back in the seat and rubbed my face tiredly. “This is useless,” I muttered.
Dominic looked at me through the mirror. “Boss, you should rest.”
“I don’t have time to rest.”
My eyes moved back to the screen, but the words kept blurring together. I blinked a few times. Still blurry. My head was not focused at all. I knew I needed an outlet.
A month later and still, she hadn’t moved or even responded to anything I said. The baby was growing stronger though and that gave me a sense of joy.
But Aria waking up was the only thing my mind could not let go of. It had been a month. One full month since she fell into that coma.
And then it happened. I was heading to the company when Dominic’s voice broke my thoughts. “Boss.”
I looked up immediately. “What?”
“The hospital just sent a message. She moved.”
I froze. For a second, I thought I heard wrong. “What did you say?”
Dominic looked more serious now. “Miss Aria. She moved her toe today.”
Silence filled the car. I did not speak for a few seconds. I just stared at him like I was trying to process it properly. Then slowly, I leaned forward. “Say that again.”
“She moved her toe.” My chest tightened immediately.
“She’s waking up,” I said quietly.
“We don’t know that yet,” Dominic replied carefully. “But it’s a sign of improvement.”

I leaned back slowly in my seat, my hand tightening slightly on the phone. A small movement. That was enough. That was all I needed.
“She’s coming back,” I muttered. After that, I stopped going home. I stayed at work more often, trying to fix what was breaking, but my focus was still not stable.
Because I kept thinking about her. Even when I was signing documents, my mind drifted. Even when I was in meetings, I stopped listening halfway.
So I increased the pressure on everyone working under me. “Find the source,” I told Dominic one evening. “I don’t care how long it takes.”
“We’re still tracking financial movement, boss.”
“Then track harder.”I was not letting this go.Not now. Not ever. I went deeper into the investigation myself. Bank records. Transactions. Hidden accounts.
And that was when I found something. A large transfer had gone into the truck driver’s account two days before the crash. I stared at the screen for a long moment.
“This is it,” I muttered.
Dominic stepped closer. “What is it?”
“This is definitely payment,” I said coldly.
“For the job?”
“Yes.”
The money was too much for a simple driver. Too clean. Too calculated. I leaned forward. “Trace the source.”
“We already started.” Hours later, Dominic came back again. “We found something, boss.”
“Talk.”
“The money came from an account linked to a small café.”
I frowned. “A café?”
“Yes.”
I stood up slowly. “That makes no sense.”
“It’s too small to move that kind of money,” Dominic continued. “Which means it’s a cover.”
My jaw tightened. “Someone is hiding behind a business.”
“Yes, boss.”
“Find the owner.”

“We’re on it.”
“Now.”
I grabbed my coat immediately. “I’m going there myself.”
Dominic hesitated. “Boss-”
“I said now.”
We were already moving when I left the office. But just as I stepped out of the building, I saw her.
Anna. The same one who humiliated Aria at the restaurant months ago.

The same woman who I couldn’t even protect Angela from. She was walking toward me with a smile that made my skin crawl.
“Brandon,” she said sweetly. “I heard about your girlfriend.”
I stopped walking. “What the fuck do you want, Anna?” I asked, my patience already growing thin. I was not in the mood for whatever rubbish she wanted to say but she didn’t get the memo.
She moved closer immediately. “You’ve been so busy lately. I thought maybe we could-”
I did not let her finish. “Get out of my way,” I said coldly.
She blinked. “Excuse me?”
“I said move.”
Her smile faded slightly. “You don’t have to be rude.” That was it. My patience snapped instantly. I grabbed her arm and shoved her back hard.
